Voluntary Game Hosting: An Aide in the fight Against "MM" and "Cool" Steamrolling

Archive: 16 posts

I personally think you should be able to voluntarily host. That is, press a button, sit back, and let LBP pull people who are "diving in" directly into the pod that someone is voluntarily hosting from. This will create more traffic for game creators and help stop the fact that the MM picks and "Cool" picks are 99% crappy games that were fudged quickly and published promptly after the release of the game to get tons of hearts and smiles from blissfully ignorant people who aren't allowed to play the similar better levels that actually took time and effort to make them great because they didn't come out early enough to make such elitist lists.

Basically, I'm getting sick of playing the same generic crap over and over again whenever I want to play multiplayer online because the 2 Elite Lists steamroll all of the actual GOOD levels off the menu entirely.

Here are some examples of absolutely terrible levels that people play constantly even though there are ridiculously better alternatives that don't make the elite lists because people actually put the time in to make them perfect instead of releasing them in week 1 to whore hearts and thumbs. I have managed to play multiple versions of much better variations of these levels that go completely unappreciated and it's very sad:

Sacksketball (oh my god, the storymode version is better than that one)

Super LBP fighter II Turbo

Clockworx

Sackbot Versus Arena

Free Run Concept (I mean really? The boring concept level has the best rating and the awesome levels that actually use it get absolutely no recognition)

Godzilla eats Tokyo

So...... when you press dive in....... you get a level from the Cool pages.... or..... get sacknapped to some guy's Pod?
That doesn't sound too appealing to me.

And yes, yes.... people have been complaining about the Cool pages since the beginning of time, but I actually like a few of the levels on there.

Godzilla is fun, as is that zombie level in a mall.

And don't you be hatin' on Clockworx 2! That isn't even in the Cool pages, it's in Media Molecule's hand picked levels. That level is BRILLIANT! I think you're just complaining about that one because you're bad at it.

So, in summary:

1: I don't want to be taken to somebody's Pod against my will. That sounds horrible.
2: Your RAEGING and WHINGING will not change the cool pages. Angry letters, posts or murals will not change the cool pages. Nothing will change the cool pages, due to the influx of 'n00bs,' who 'hax.' So stop causing trouble. You're stopping me from watching a zombie movie because I'm too busy ranting to stop your ranting.

Most of them are great, admittedly the free run concept was boring, but of course there are just going to be concepts and mini-games for now, the game's been out for a maximum of two weeks, which isn't long enough to create an amazing level, plus a lot of that time has been put into story.

You lost all my respect right there, sorry. You enjoy pressing one button and stepping from side to side on a level that is too "cool" to have a background or... something to do.... If I had a pair of keys right now I would jingle them in front of your face and you would probably be amused for hours if you enjoy playing Godzilla.

1: I don't want to be taken to somebody's Pod against my will. That sounds horrible.

It sounds less horrible than being forced to play the exact same levels over and over again when there are millions of levels available to play. You're only allowed to play the levels that are already being played... Which means OLD levels that were released EARLY with very little effort or thought put into them.

Um.. Grow up.. and go back to Blizzard games.. where the rage and immaturity belongs. Thanks.

Hah! That made me laugh.

Though perhaps the OP didn't mean it quite like that? Maybe choosing from a list of hosts or something to that effect, rather than ending up in lord knows where each time you dive in?

Personally I would like the 'dive in' feature to randomly generate a level from ALL the published levels (as per your filters), not just the cool pages. And yes, I realize that may take the better part of a year, but it's better than playing Sacksket Ball three times in a row while diving in.

And to the OP: if you have some levels that are "completely unappreciated" that you'd like to share, feel free. I'd like to have something other than Godzilla Destroys Tokyo and FREE RARE PRIZE CROWN!!!11! to choose from.

I think you're missing the point a little . Yes you enjoy playing those games; there are MUCH better ones that are exactly the same in pretty much every way except in the fact that they include more features and have enhanced gameplay. They, however, do not get played because they were not published in the "elite period" of the week of game release. We are now only allowed to play the worse versions of the exact same level because they were published earlier.

I just dont want LBP2 to be like the corporate world: just a bunch of monsters that eat the competition even though the quality of the crap they are selling is pathetic compared to those that they are eliminating to get there.

Check out my basketball level if you want to be reassured that sacksketball is a substandard LBP2 experience . I'll do some digging in my recent activity to find u the other godzilla level I played that made me absolutely ashamed of the "Cool" list and how it touts people for having the worste version of something available. Other than that I am compiling a small list of really good levels I plays that mirror "Cool" or "MMPicks" levels and I'll post it in the appropriate section of the forums when I'm done.

Word. It drives me nuts never being able to get a game on story missions or decent community levels.2011-02-01 14:50:00

I didn't actually play it. I don't play anything from the cool pages. (I'll get to that in a moment.) I did what my brother play it, and it looked enjoyable.

Forced? Hardly. As I said earlier, I don't even look at the cool pages. Everyone knows that a lot of it is trash.
(But don't assume that limited time means a bad level is produced, that is wrong)

I queue up good levels and play those.
'Dive in' is also on your queue, so you can 'Dive in' as you please, while playing levels which you hand-picked.

Um.. Grow up.. and go back to Blizzard games.. where the rage and immaturity belongs. Thanks.

I don't know what Blizzard games is, though I assume it is a website with a poorly managed comment section and/or forum.

I find it a little staggering that someone who made a thread to suggest something which may work, (But may not as the majority of hosts would be people who enjoy the cool pages) but to also rant about the cool pages, (and whose PSN is includes the words rampage and roar,) is saying that I am filled with rage.

If you don't like the cool pages, don't use them.

99 percent of the levels suck

Gee, you must have a lot of time on your hands to be able to play 2 million+ levels and make such a claim.

Chart Music Sucks & Hollywood Films are Rubbish.

Basically any "populist" media will be populated by lowest common denominator rubbish.

This same principle applies to MM Picked and Cool Levels Pages.
The majority will be populist tripe... with only a few choice nuggets of quality.

But there are so many more ways to search for content in LBP2 ---- Heart some A-list creators and see what they've been playing, browse the web a bit and find levels you like the sound of and queue them... use the filter button to streamline the content that you actually want.

There's not much can be done about "populism" short of a mass human cull.. but you don't "have" to be a part of it

There was a better level then Mm picked, highly rated, highly played, highly enjoyed, highly hearted, professionally designed clockworx 2 which was created by a survival challenge expert who would never rush to whore hearts? Wow, I loved that level, put the LBP.me link so I can play the better version of his level.2011-02-03 11:52:00

If you don't like the cool pages, don't use them.

This logic drives me crazy.

He doesn't like it because it doesn't reflect the best the community has to offer. In other words, it's broken. Anyone who has spent months creating a level will understand and ought to agree.

Mm needs to do a better job of highlighting their best creators, plain and simple.

No offense, but some of you guys are just sounding really snobbish. I've seen plenty of awesome levels in the "Cool Levels" and "MM Picks" pages. Sorry if you suck at Clockworks 2 but it's actually a really well made and visually appealing level.

You also have to keep in mind there are over 3 million levels out there. Not every single one is going to get time in the spotlight.

I just wish there was a dive in feature for story mode sometimes so I wouldn't have to keep trying to play with someone on whichever level looks the most populated.2011-02-04 01:31:00
