Can't figure out how Emitters work...

Archive: 3 posts

Emitters bother me..
They seem like such a simple tool to use, but I can never get them to do what I want. Maybe I just need a complete breakdown on how to use it properly and maybe my ideas are too much for the emitter... (I've done and watched the Emitter tutorial in the game and it doesn't help)

All I want to do is make something shoot out from a specific location (ex, fireball projectile in a lava pit, plasma out of a controlinator, etc.) without it disappearing or just appearing. How do I do this? The tutorial just has you emit an egg out of a chicken's butt, but I want my projectile to leap across a small area, or shoot out of a hand to the other side of the level. Can someone please help me because I can't seem to find help anywhere and this problem doesn't seem that hard (but it is for me!)

First, check out the wiki page. I'm pretty sure it goes into more detail about what every option on the emitter does.

Second, experiment! Try everything. It's really the only way for you to really know it, and not just follow a tutorial without learning why it works.

dissapearing is its lifespan, and amount emmitted/ frequency is appearing.... if u want one thing to shoot out and stay out have the lifespan set to infinate, have ammount set to emmit 1 (and destroy when max emmitted set to no), and have its frequency set to whatever (0.1 emmits right away). there is also effects on appearing and dissapearing like explode (self explanitory) and fade(object fades in or out) that may help u. Finally most ppl use tricks of the eye to make things appear different that whats accually happening, like say u want to emit something from a fire pit but when it shoots out it looks like it just "appeared out of thin air" not the fire pit. U can add a smoke machine to the top of the pit and it looks like the fireball came from under the smoke thus tricking the eye into thinking it came from the pit but really it just Appeared behind the smoke screen.... And yes defineatly experiment its the only way to get a true grasp on everything.

Hope this helps
