Where do u find the time to create?

Archive: 17 posts

Hello everyone! I am just wondering where most of you find the time to create such cool, and complex levels. Do you have jobs? Do you work from home and just play LBP all day while you are supposed to be working?

Personally, I got the game of day 1 (the 7th of Nov here in NZ ) and am still working on my first level which is going to be great although I am still scratching the surface of what is possible - I am nowhere near finished with the story mode either..... admittedly, my GF doesn't let me spend ALL my free time playing but i still have been on a fair amount. How do u guys do it???

i don't know about you man, but the stuff i found in the fridge was a bit smelly and just a tad off.

i find it hard to find time as well (note that i have no published levels). try to get in an hour or two after work and sometimes even before work if i'm so inspired. i find that making gadgets JUST right takes up all of my time. actually sitting down and doing level design seems very tricky to me.

I started on my first level 3 days ago and still havn't even got through the tutorials. I have about 3 objects/shapes so far lol.

I always tell myself that I'll get a few hours in after work (I usually work until 10 or 11 pm). But I just end up doing the story levels for a lil bit because I feel too tired to concentrate on level design/creation & I usually see the other half anyway. Then on my days off my gf or mates take up most of my time. I'm next off work on sunday, so I may 'accidently' turn my phone off and have a good ole 6-7 hour stint

yeah i just do an hour or about half an hour when i get home to try and advance as far as i can and if i have any free time over the weekends or well the week in general i put a little bit of that time into the level and the rest is well working or hanging with friends and all that jazz.

Cheers!

I am a quick worker. I construct levels with a fine amount of creative value contained by one to two hours of any liberated time I may have.2008-11-14 01:50:00

i think i may take my lunch tomorrow at work and just sit there with pencil and paper being anti-social and coming up with level design and layout and hopefully even some concept art direction. not that i'm much of an artist, but i think it will help.2008-11-14 04:21:00

I have a lot of time every day actually. But I need to really start planning out my levels before hand, the level I'm creating right now is basically a, "create as you go" kind of thing for me. I'm still quite happy with it though.2008-11-14 04:27:00

A) The ideas come from day to day stuff, believe it or not.. web browsing, I just see something I'm interested in. Or adjusting an idea on the forums to something I"m interested in. I see something on the drive home

B) Create time = Weekends and usually 3 hours a night after work.... Or if I'm on a mental block (such as last week), i get about 30 minutes a night before I give up (or go back into story mode)

Different people come up with ideas faster and slower and execute them faster and slower too. I personally am a very slow creator. I have the ideas most of the time, but executing them takes me a long time.2008-11-15 21:41:00

Ah... I am much the same. My "Pete's Great Glass Tower" level took about 35 hours and "Oculynth" took me above 50 hours because I was so set on having each section 'perfect'.
As for how I found the time, I currently have no job and spent most of my free time making it. Once I have a job, I can expect my free time to whittle away...

I only build something when i think it's a really cool idea, and sometimes i'm thinking whole days long about what i'm going to build next That's why i haven't still published my level yet. I've been working on this level for over a week now!2008-11-16 08:51:00
