Taking the creation side of LBP in a different direction?

Archive: 8 posts

Good evening my fellow Sackboys (and Sackgirls). I, like many of you have been eagerly smashing away at my control pad the past few nights to try and make a new level that I hoped hadn't been done before. It seems only one other person has a level similar and that was the rather brilliant - Tetrin.jp level that has lefty most of the community gob-smacked.

So, whilst it may be of a similar style to the gem that I just mentioned but I think I may have taken it either a step further - or maybe an inch...

Basically, I was getting a bit fed up of seeing so many trophy levels and rocket car levels that I was close to chaging discs and firing up a different game until most users had got used to the creation aspect of the game and started making some truly epic levels. Whilst mine isn't epic - it will hopefully inspire a few of you to have a crack at making something that stands out.

Essentially, it's based on the original GTA games that were on the PSone. It has a "living" city, working traffic (in places) a train system and a few other things that all work with a birds-eye view. You also have the ability to change radio stations which is pretty cool once you've got used to the controls!

Imagine our little hero that is Sackboy is in a giant foam circle. This circle is broken up into quarters and each quarter is a grabbable switch. So, four switches = four radio stations. Also, whilst at face value the level may seem rather small, I assure you the level I've made comes in just over 90%! I've gone to quite a bit of detail with the occasional person walking back and forth, tunnels, bridges, a pretty good lighting rig and some neat little touches to give it that extra bit of detail.

So, why am I drivelling on and on about it here? I'm essentially asking you to try it out, give feedback, ask questions and help me work out what to do in the next part. I assure you though - this isn't for any of the trophies! It's me wanting to make the community have fun and maybe begin turning LBP into something more than a platform creator.

The levels name is: Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Saga - Off the Truck (Pt 1).

Talk about a drawn out name eh!?

Please give it a try folks. I put some serious hours into this every evening after work - even skipping meals to get it published! Don't forget, you can also search for my name (Bearskopff) and find the level that way!

I really look forward to your responses and hope as a community - we can be the ones that change the way we play LBP forever!

Regards,
Andy/Bearskopff

Haha! Yeah, I took your advice and made a post about it here! My camera is playing up so I couldn't get around to taking any pictures which is a shame because it really helps "sell" a level.

Some of the comments have been great about it so far. It's already been worth the effort (and skipping meals)!!!

Oh! And congrats again on your LBP platinum buddy!

Haven't platinumed yet man Still got Share to go O_O

Anywho, there's another method of changing radio stations which I think might help you out.. Shame I can't remember it :/

I think there was a wheel somewhere in the level, with a mag key for every different "radio station". When you grabbed it, a piston would drop down with a mag switch on it, activating whichever one it was connected to

It was random, but you get them all

I discover your thoughts fascinating; eligible to switch radio stations, I also absolutely concur that most of LittleBigPlanet?s community needs more of a creative prospective.

I am in progress of a similar project. Producing levels with un-thought of ideas and elegant creations. I tend to do all of my labor with haste and fix anything that is in need of repair. I find collecting medals irrelevant and un-needed. Fresh ideas must be brought to attention.

Epic mate! I'll be sure to give it a try! I'll be online in a mo! Just going for a jog! See you in a bit!

Before I rush off! Try my level mate then let me know what you think either here or on the comments part for my level!

Hopefully, I can get a bit more interactive with the community here and start making some truly incredible collaborative efforts!

Peace!
