Doodle Jump
Archive: 49 posts
http://lbp.me/v/x9mytq My first LBP2 level is published and ready to go! It was going to be Puzzle World 2, but the idea of this popped into my head and I couldn't resist. A week or so later (suprisingly quick for me), and here it is, Doodle Jump! Based on the popular mobile phone game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doodle_Jump). Tilt the controller to move Doodler left and right and bounce to the top. http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/baa568c5ba797070a1262ab8bcfcd0cb2498d45e.jpg It's not perfect as of yet, I still have a bit of work, but I feel it's good enough for publishing to show off the basic mechanincs. If you feel you can help with any of the problems below, feel free to offer your advice. Doodler will sometimes fling himself to the top. Doodler can take a while to reach maximum height. Having more than one player breaks it considerably As well as that, I'm going to make the following improvments: Make multiple courses that will be selected at random when the player begins Added, a third course may be added at a later date. Black holes Added Possible sackboy version with bouncepads? Anywho, thanks for taking a look, and all feedback is appreciated http://lbp.me/v/x9mytq | 2011-01-31 20:20:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |

Ooooo I love doodle jump so the is a must try! Manor you could use a randomiser for the platforms? Just a thought when reading the future updates. Queued so could you try my LBP 2 level in sig? Thanks | 2011-01-31 21:13:00 Author: trianglepigsquar Posts: 144 |
Definitly playing. Love the app. | 2011-01-31 21:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'll definitely check it out. What does F4F mean anyway? Whatever it is let's do it! | 2011-01-31 22:32:00 Author: JonnysToyRobot Posts: 324 |

What does F4F mean anyway? Whatever it is let's do it! https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=7962-Feedback-For-Feedback Feedback for Feedack, you play his level and provide useful feedback and he'll play whatever of yours you request him to. Much better than H4H, in my opinion. | 2011-02-01 05:22:00 Author: booXely Posts: 654 |
I'll give it a spin for a measly play of my level. The link is in my sig. | 2011-02-01 05:39:00 Author: Yofig Posts: 288 |
Whoah, that's a lot of replies! Anywho, queued the one's I've been told to. Ooooo I love doodle jump so the is a must try! Manor you could use a randomiser for the platforms? Just a thought when reading the future updates. Currently there is one course, which is exactly the same each time. What I was tinking of doing though was making a couple more, then one is chosen at random when you play, creating a sort of puesdo-random thing | 2011-02-01 07:56:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Put it in my queue. Please F4f link in sig. | 2011-02-01 08:00:00 Author: Pojo_King1987 Posts: 32 |
Oops my iPod auto corrected it from mabie to manor... I hate auto correct... Anyhow... I liked everything about the level apart from one thing. I know that too responsive jumping has been reported but I found that sometimes it didn't jump high enough... Overall however I gave it a : ) P.s. Please may to try out and give feedback on my LBP 2 level in my signature? | 2011-02-01 15:39:00 Author: trianglepigsquar Posts: 144 |

Seems alright, I'll see what other feedback I get. | 2011-02-01 20:09:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Ok I played this level, it was very creative and fun, even though I never played the original I still enjoyed it, That character is really creatvie. I liked the background, it made me feel like I was in a notebook or something. I had some trouble at the beggining until I got the hang of the controls, then I actually manage to get up a little but I still failed lol XD it was pretty challeging. overall, good fun level | 2011-02-01 21:40:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |

Queued and I'll play it in a few mins (with the psn Rabbodirect)! Could you F4F with mine http://lbp.me/v/xeqtb9. Theres a few steering mechanics I have to work out with it still but any feedback is welcome | 2011-02-02 21:17:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
I can see the potential in this. The jump recognition needs tightening up but apart from that, solid start. Please can you F4F the level in my sig? I'm going to try and revive it | 2011-02-02 21:41:00 Author: wilkesy88 Posts: 73 |
Its a pretty cool concept and its a good level even though the six-axis isn't the most responsive with stuff like this. Came out well though! Maybe the move pack would perfect it. Took a few go's at it and now I'm 6th on the scoreboard! Woop | 2011-02-03 00:06:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |

Overall a pretty simple level. I liked the motion control and that worked well for the level. The design was very simple, but i think it worked in this situation. The jumping felt a little random on how high you jump, and i was not a fan of this. Some times i would jump really high and others i would hardly jump at all. Also the instructions were extremely hard to read because of the bouncing text. Overall a unique level that workes well, but not perfect. Its just plagued by too much randomness on the jumping 7/10 Be sure to send feedback on my level in my sig if you have time. | 2011-02-03 00:15:00 Author: Jidery Posts: 33 |

Other people have reported the text, I'll move it to the start menu. I'm really not sure how to fix the jumping, the mover seems to decide to be random. I can see the potential in this. Okaay, I recently played this and also wrote some stuff on the level I liked how you 'ported' the iOS game into the LBP engine It's well done, I think. Only the jumps are a bit weird, but I think you will be able to work on that, too. (Not sure if you fixed that already) I 'd it | 2011-02-03 13:12:00 Author: iArekusu Posts: 402 |

The one I have is actually the Symbian version, maybe that's why everyone's finding it weird? My wife loves this game! Queued and will ask her for an opinion as well! Thanks, I look forward to your reply Minor update today, added a black hole and fixed the glitch where you can get stuck at the bottom, as demonstrated here >.> http://ie.lbp.me/img/ft/19e6ce2130ca21ff924306210ab15846c1635dd6.jpg As for the jumping, it seems more rigid in my attempt to make him speed up quicker. I'll give it another look. | 2011-02-03 20:52:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
It doesn't work for me. Can you please tell me how to work that think. I pressed everybutton and direction but no luck. I'll give you a proper feedback if i could know how to work that thing. | 2011-02-04 00:02:00 Author: Super Sackboy Bros Posts: 17 |

I can see a lot of potential here, but the jumping really needs a lot of work. It feels sludgy, and you can fall through platforms or not jump high enough. Great start though, and with time I can see this becoming epic. BTW, what are you doing to test for platforms? I have a one way sensor that you may find useful. | 2011-02-04 01:11:00 Author: Yofig Posts: 288 |
This is a good start. It's a bit glitchy at times (if you land on one of the cracked platforms and then a green one you don't jump high enough, sometimes when you fall down you fall through the platforms) but it's fun. Suggestions: -I'd like it if the menu screen looked a bit more like the original. -Couldn't read the notes at the beginning, maybe move them to where the menu is? -There seems to be a little bit of space wasted, maybe make an illusion so that it lookeds like you're playing on an iPhone (kinda like the PSP levels). -I don't remember hearing any sound effects when you bounced on the platforms. Maybe add the "boing" noise. -When you fix the more important stuff, a choice on theme would be cool. It was fun, gave it a Yay rating. When you can, please F4F the level in my sig (A Helping Hand...) | 2011-02-04 05:55:00 Author: brnxblze Posts: 1318 |
Haha, I wanted to do this too! Of course, I couldn't be bothered. Looks fun! | 2011-02-04 06:49:00 Author: tomodon246 Posts: 624 |

I pressed everybutton and direction but no luck. I'll give you a proper feedback if i could know how to work that thing. As mentioned, tilt the controller, though I'm thinking of adding a way of letting the player choose between that and the analogue stick. They're all copy-pastes of each other, to be honest. Care to explain more about this one-way sensor? This is a good start. When you can, please F4F the level in my sig (A Helping Hand...) Yeah, sometimes you have to stay still and wait for him to get high enough, I can't think how to stop this. I was going to move the notes yesterday, but I forgot >.< As for the menu, the problem is getting the text small enough, what with fonts not working. I considered the 'boing' noise, I'll add it and see. There aren't any in my version though (again, mine isn't the iPhone one). Thanks yet again everyone for all the replies, this has now made it to cool pages Well, the LBPC ones, but who knows? EDIT: Put text on title screen and hopefully fixed the jumping. He now reaches top height quicker, but its much smoother now. Hopefully that's it fixed, and I can focus on more courses. | 2011-02-04 08:21:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |

As I was falling I moved way to the right. Then, once I was on the ground, I moved to the left to see it the was an end to the grid paper. THERE WAS! | 2011-02-05 10:16:00 Author: tomodon246 Posts: 624 |
Great level! Finally a level which uses the motion control of the PS3 controller! I've written a review on it in LBP2 too! | 2011-02-05 17:54:00 Author: ghik16 Posts: 311 |

I'm talking about your hit detection method for the platforms. Ah, yeah, it can be shaky. At the moment I'm just using tags. Also, the second course is underway folks! | 2011-02-06 19:26:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
F4F the level in my sig. | 2011-02-06 19:32:00 Author: Unknown User |

F4F the level in my sig. The point of Feedback for Feedback is you actually give feedback, thank you. | 2011-02-07 12:47:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
The point of Feedback for Feedback is you actually give feedback, thank you. Yh sorry it's in my queue but I have been away from my ps3 for a day. It will be done soon sorry for delay | 2011-02-07 16:09:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yh sorry it's in my queue but I have been away from my ps3 for a day. It will be done soon sorry for delay OK then, thanks Working on V2.0, got a nice new 'Options' bit in the menu, which took much longer than I expected, but it's done now. | 2011-02-07 21:34:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
If you'd like I can send the object to you to see if you can get some use out of it. | 2011-02-09 02:27:00 Author: Yofig Posts: 288 |
If you'd like I can send the object to you to see if you can get some use out of it. Oooh, yes please, that'd be nice. Could you explain a bit about how to use it and stuff as well? Thanks | 2011-02-09 21:42:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Version 2.0 is now up! The menu now includes an 'Options' menu, that allows you to toggle between courses and music, as well as a second course for people to play, and a fix to the problem tomodon246 pointed out. Thanks for the feedback so far! | 2011-02-12 15:34:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Pros A menu at the beginning of the level allows players to select what option they want, and also adds a prediction of good quality to the level. Cons When you begin, the instructions are tiny and require the player to get closer to the TV in order to even read them. When you play the game, I don't think you actually do anything. I left the controller down and it played itself, it simply flew to the top and awarded me 6450 points.. Overall Not a very good constructed level. It needs improvements in all areas and needs better instructions on how to play, if you even have to. The level itself needs improving since it's one material and the same object repeated all through the scale tower. In return, please try and review my levels in the signature. Much appreciated! | 2011-02-12 15:47:00 Author: Unknown User |

I can't seem to fid a way around the 'flinging' bug. If you've played the actual game, it is just the same-looking platforms over and over, just arranged differently. Plus using only two material saves thermo | 2011-02-15 16:30:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |

This looks cool and sounds cool. Ill play it. Gasp, someone posted again! I've since found better versions of this lying around LBP2, but this will always have a special place as my first LBP2 level. Aaah. | 2011-03-28 07:54:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
This was pretty cool. Aas stated in my review I think it would look a thousand times cooler with clouds and colourfull things hanging out of everything! Have you considered using the randomizer to randomise the platform positions? | 2011-11-04 15:39:00 Author: Tecnoguy1 Posts: 206 |
