LBP Quilt - Community Project

PROJECT: http://lbpquilt.com/images/lbpquilt.jpg WEB SITE: http://LBPQuilt.com LBP Quilt is a true community Little Big Planet 2 project. The concept is, a level theme is chosen and each section of the level is designed by many different creators of the LBP community. In the end all the sections are brought together like patches of a quilt. A level kit will be provided that contains the section layout to build upon. Each section is the same expect for the awesomeness you design within it. In the game the player can press a button to reveal credit about the creator of that level section. This post will list all the current projects and help answer questions. PS: I have spent many weeks on this project from concept. Each level project will include a intro/outro movie, web site section with full details, level kit, and an introduction level to level kit. So you are safe in betting this will not be a project that I will introduce and then quickly forget. Once we have more than one level I will redesign the web site to include level sections. | 2011-01-31 15:15:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
1ST PROJECT: SACKERATINATOR 3000 Project Status: Create Mode – Signing up new creators http://lbpquilt.com/images/sk3intrologo.jpg LEVEL THEME: A lab assistant starts his first day on the job. After meeting the scientist he is quickly presented with the Sackeratinator 3000 machine. After entering he enters the mind of a rat trapped in a series of cages. The scientist promises to return him to his body if he can reach the end of the rat tests. DEMO: You can see the beta intro movie by going to the following level (Blastroid’s ATM) from Blastroid’s Earth and entering the code 03030. http://lbpquilt.com/images/blastroidsatm.jpg (http://lbp.me/v/wyt7ff) Click here to view level information and queue it up. (http://lbp.me/v/wyt7ff) HOW TO JOIN: 1. Visit the web site and read more information about the project. 2. Send BLASTROID a friends request with your interest in the project. Communicate your section idea so I can check for duplication before wasting anyone’s time. Friends request is needed to transfer items, messages, and easier communication. 3. I will contact you with a code to the level kit. The project is starting now and we already have many creators working on sections. There will be no limit to the number of sections as we can use level links and use them all. I will fit as many sections per level as the thermometer allows. So sign up and let’s create an awesome community level. I will post here and change the project status when we are no longer taking sections and creators. And here's another! For those considering joining, think of this: what do you have to lose? So far it has been great. At 5 a.m., we wake up then get free whippings, then at 6:00 a.m., we are forced at gunpoint to work on our segments. At 8:00 pm, we get moldy bread for dinner. Looks neat. I might give it a spin. | 2011-02-02 18:28:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |

Oh I like the sound of this, something nice and small yet very cooperative. Will all the sections be shown in a top down view yes? | 2011-02-02 18:54:00 Author: Darkcloudrepeat Posts: 606 |
P.S. I will add you once I get the chance to get on the PS3 blastroid my PSN is austinwinans | 2011-02-02 19:03:00 Author: Unknown User |
Oh I like the sound of this, something nice and small yet very cooperative. Will all the sections be shown in a top down view yes? Yes for the Sackeratinator 300 level the them is the scientist is looking over the rat cages watching you perform the variety of tests. So each section will have the same view. Now for future LBP Quilt levels the section s may be different view. It really all depends on the level theme. I give you the section kit with the camera already in place so it is easy to test your section as you create with the same look and feel it will have in the final level. | 2011-02-02 19:05:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
Fair enough, do I add you on PSN whenever? | 2011-02-02 23:28:00 Author: Darkcloudrepeat Posts: 606 |
Fair enough, do I add you on PSN whenever? Yes anytime. We already have creators in sweat shops now. | 2011-02-03 00:00:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
Queued the level this morning, but didn't post because I feel posts that simply say "Queued!" are a waste of space. Ah so it has to be top down. That counts me out unless I come up with anything interesting. It's a nice concept. I'll definitely have a play when it comes out. | 2011-02-03 04:15:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Ah so it has to be top down. That counts me out unless I come up with anything interesting. So why is that? Don't like top down, not familiar with creating top down content? To participate even the simplest concept is a winner. For example just created one yesterday where all you need the rat to do is drag the four PlayStation button icons to their proper place to unlock the cheese. | 2011-02-03 18:38:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
This sounds totally cool! So the player controls a rat that has to do a little puzzle? neat! I'd send a friend request but i'll probably forget, could you send me one? (Psn is Matimooo , yes with 3 o's, it's not a typo) | 2011-02-03 18:59:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |

That was sad, first few days nobodys interested , I'll Help you out, i think this project is a great idea. Great, just send me a friends request once you have a cage idea and I will send you the code to the kit and beta level. | 2011-02-04 14:08:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
Fun project so far! I've already finished one cell, I'm thinking of ideas for another one. The next quilt theme should be a portal-style puzzle game, and you could collaborate with the guy who made the portal concept in the Beta. | 2011-02-04 15:39:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
So why is that? Don't like top down, not familiar with creating top down content? To participate even the simplest concept is a winner. For example just created one yesterday where all you need the rat to do is drag the four PlayStation button icons to their proper place to unlock the cheese. A bit of both. Ah. The classic LBP colour block "puzzle". But with new top down action! That video was great. I'll give it a go. One question, how does the player know they have completed all the rooms? Won't the 4 door approach cause a fair bit of backtracking? | 2011-02-04 19:49:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
I played the demo of this in the beta! I loved the concept!! | 2011-02-04 19:55:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |
[QUOTE=midnight_heist;761855 One question, how does the player know they have completed all the rooms? Won't the 4 door approach cause a fair bit of backtracking?[/QUOTE] The sections will be laid out in a grid for example 5 x 5. You will know you reached the end when the scientist tells you have reached the end and he asked you to enter the portal looking machine to turn you back into your sackboy self. I am hoping at some point to have hundreds of sections and for this situation at the beginning you will be given a choice of pipes to go through. Each pipe is leveled linked to a new set of sections. All leading to the same end. So you could play the level multiple times with a new experience each time. The 4 door approach will let you choose your own path. You can either play all the sections which would have the need for backtracking or work your way to the farthest outer section for the end. Once you complete a section you will not need to complete it again if you backtrack into the section again. | 2011-02-04 20:06:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
Too bad the video didn't show my level. It's pretty beast Can't wait to see what everyone else is making! | 2011-02-04 21:45:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
Too bad the video didn't show my level. It's pretty beast Can't wait to see what everyone else is making! I was just testing my new HDMI capture card. I will be remaking the video again soon. The video quality will be better also. This preview was 3.2 GB 720P 30FPS but I converted it to WMV for only a 350MG upload. I will upload the final video in full HD when the level is complete showing most if not all of the sections. The video is already 7+ minutes long with very few sections. I will probably have to break the video up for the final build. | 2011-02-04 22:46:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
Bump for an awesome project. Come on, people, it's fun! Almost done with my second cell | 2011-02-06 16:21:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
I like it. I'll start cooking up an idea for a room. | 2011-02-06 22:26:00 Author: Siljin Posts: 76 |
Almost done with my second cell I am on my 11th section. Going to spread them out across the sub levels though. Plan is to have around 25-30 section per sub level. There will be a hub shown below after the tutorial section leading you to 1-4 sub levels. Each level has the same end link. So you could play the level 4 times and get 4 different experiences. Also if on average you spend 60 seconds per section this could potentially be a 30+ minute level. If you choose to go through all cages on one sub level. You can choose a different path on reaching the end since the sections are laid out like a quilt. http://lbpquilt.com/images/sections/hub.jpg | 2011-02-07 14:44:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
Finished, sent to you Now, maybe another... It's going slow because I'm trying to think of interesting puzzles rather than the "dodge this, jump up that" approach. Not that there's anything wrong with that. | 2011-02-07 16:00:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
Finished, sent to you I will need to go to your moon co-create and capture the section. Sending the sections as objects locks the objects down and causes many problems. See you online later tonight maybe. | 2011-02-07 16:10:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
I will need to go to your moon co-create and capture the section. Sending the sections as objects locks the objects down and causes many problems. See you online later tonight maybe. I sent the key to you. You should be able to copy it. | 2011-02-07 18:09:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
I sent the key to you. You should be able to copy it. That system will work just fine. I wish MM would allow sending entire levels via share system. | 2011-02-08 14:24:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |

How do you send keys? | 2011-02-08 20:06:00 Author: Mokko Posts: 4 |
How do you send keys? Publish your level, and you get the key in Create mode. It'll be in the Level Kit section. Then press Square on the key you want to send and go down to the "Send to Friend" option. The rest should explain itself. | 2011-02-08 22:56:00 Author: EliminatorZigma Posts: 173 |
Getting so close to publish. We currently have 21 unique sections. I would like to have at least 23 sections complete for one sub level, but would prefer to have around 28 sections to I could start on the hub system and have 2 different sub levels of sections. Each sub level will contain 2 default sections. The hub start and the ending cage that links to the end movie. Here is the breakdown on the required number of sections needed based on the grid size: 4 x 4 = 16 sections - 2 default = 14 sections x 2 for sub sections = 28 5 x 5 = 25 sections - 2 default = 23 sections x 2 for sub sections = 46 6 x 6 = 36 sections - 2 default = 34 sections x 2 for sub sections = 72 The end goal is a 6x6 (4 sub sections = 136) but I will release the first publish with either 1 level containing a 5x5 or 2 sub sections containing 4x4's. The system is designed so we can always add as more sections come in. So if you are already creating sections keep them coming. You can do as many as you want. Also there is still plenty of time for new creators. Please see the first post on this topic for more information about how to join. | 2011-02-10 15:03:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
