Making a version of Intelligent Qubes (Kurushi)

Archive: 1 post

Well after a couple of days generally messing around with LBP2 in create mode I have started to try and build a clone of 'Kurushi', some may know it as 'Intelligent Qube'. This was one of my favourite 'have a quick go', games on the PS1, of course it never turned out to be a quick go as the game wasn't about to defeat me without a fight! so I usually ended up playing far longer than intended. If anyone is interested there are MANY videos of this game on youtube, just to give an idea about what I am trying to do.

There are some limits with building this in LBP2, namely that if I want rolling 'cubes' I will have to use the standard camera axis and only have a grid which is 3 deep, that means that this will only be a rough clone of the puzzler and I will have to try and spice it up in other ways (puts devious obstacle or danger invention hat on!).

So far this is turning out to be a pretty easy build, the 'hollow' material is a dream and the logic behind the 'Qube' mechanics couldn't be simpler (I had a cube that paused with each 90 degree 'roll' sorted in about 2 minutes). So now I am working on the grid activation/deactivation which again is not difficult. The tricky part is going to be the simultaneous 'de-rezzing' of 'Qubes' & grid square deactivation, though I have a hunch that the ability to turn MC's on and off via a sensor will work a treat...actually I'm sure it will!. OMG look at me babbling on, sorry!

Please feel free to leave your comments, ideas or suggestions about this and who knows I might even finish this one before my PS3 dies!....I had built a Rubics Clock when I borrowed a PS3 from Ungreth (a legend BTW), but lost it all when it died for the third time....grrr! oh well..new PS3, new LBP2 and a fresh puzzle to puzzle over!...
