Level links upon scoreboard.

Archive: 11 posts

What's the deal with these?
You finish a level, then are transported without warning to the next one?
It's like key links in LBP1, but worse.

Won't someone please think of the children! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh2sWSVRrmo)
(You know, the ones who just follow the key links, and don't know the meaning of the button "O")

I don't think I'm ever going to use these. I'd rather put an actual link by the scoreboard. There should be an option for pod no matter what.2011-01-31 12:56:00

Yes, I agree... It should atleast warn you that another level is being loaded... Hate watching a film then being sent to another crap film I have already seen.2011-01-31 14:54:00

I wish the tutorial would give good example and bad examples of uses.

Level links should either be optional unless it is a continued story/level of the level you are currently playing.

A good example is that when you finish a regular level, it would take you to an 'outro' cutscene level, like MM did with their boss levels immediently taking the player to the outro cutscene level.

A bad example is that a level scoreboard taking you to a random and irrelevent level.

Speaking of level links from scoreboards, does it reset your score and ace stats for the next level?

I can understand the reasoning behind it, if someone made a huge level that overheated & they had to spread it out over two or more levels, but when the levels are actually unrelated & its just about getting the other level played, then its pretty crappy.2011-01-31 16:41:00

I think that it does if it's not a scoreboard link and the level you're linking to is set to sub-level, not 100% sure though

Main level + Sub level counts as single level, whatever you do with sub-level as player it counts for main level. Also Score is transfered.
Sub-level are level type that link to goes smoothly without rating menu

For normal levels.... i don't know but you can test it by yourself, find some hub level with links and if you get gold sackboy badge means that link works like scoreboard

Also linking to sub levels means all hearts, comments, reviews, smiles, and frowns all go toward the first level. This is because you do not even see the sub levels on the earth like you would a locked level that had a key in another level.2011-01-31 19:01:00

Yes, this is a bit silly.

Does that also mean all branch level scoreboards will be merged into the hub scoreboard?
If so, I shall cut my Crash Bandicoot style warp room, as the whole point of the levels is to get a decent score..

BTW I played a level the other day which linked to another, which then linked back into the original.
A two level loop for goodness sake!

I really think that it should give you an option to be transported to the next level or not. Levels can take ages to load and it's a pain to finish one and then get sucked into another one that takes twice as long.2011-02-01 06:13:00
