I Need Help with Finalising a Concept.

The way I generally work with levels is to think of a concept or style, jump into create, and expand it on a kind of trial and error/ "this will rarely go well" way.

But this time, after some very minor but quite pleasing reaction to my last level, I want to do something really special.

What I have so far:

. Art style: I've already got it saved and have tested materials and whatnot with the colour correction , basically it looks like a 1940's gangster/noir film. Mostly black and white with hints of red. I've decided to use the Factory of a Better Tomorrow backdrop as it works really well with the style. Materials used will mostly be all kinds of stone and brass (maybe a little bit of other metals). Liberal use of propaganda type imagery will also be involved
. Concept: you're cast as a vigilante/ batman type swinging through the city with your grappling hook. What distinguishes the gameplay from any other level is that there will be a focus on stealth. Spotlights with angled sensors sweeping across certain sections, that kind of thing. I'm also thinking of a bit where you have to grab onto the back of one of these spotlights in order to hide from it, hopefully that will be pretty tense.

What I am posting the thread for:

. Does this sound good to you? I will spend a lot of my time on this if it turns out that I'm not barking up the wrong tree.
. I don't have anything resembling a plot/motive. Why are you swinging through the rooftops defeating evil and stuff? I don't know. But I need something.
. I want to stay as far away from the conventional as possible so I need a lot more ideas for obstacles/ traps than I already have in this skull here. Stealth can only take so much time in it and needs to be counter balanced with action packed bits. What can you do with a grappling hook that hasn't been done to death already? :/

You don't have to respond to all of them, anything sensical will be awesome.

Well, I could probably help out with this one:
Art Style: Ever seen Sin City? It uses a unique colouration of black, white and copious amounts of red, but it also incorporates other colours - all of which are vivid in contrast to the black/white colour scheme. For the propaganda, I suggest stuff like the 'Work Hard' one seen in Factory of a Better Tomorrow - that stood out as quite dark and brutal in an otherwise cute game.

Concept: The concept you have seems good, almost like one of the scenes with Rorschach from The Watchmen. An interesting idea/obstacle/trap could be:
an armoured vehicles coming and you have to grapple onto a streetlamp to clear it, dropping down an underground sewer using the grapple to guide your descent etc.

There's so many things that people have done with grapple hooks: but I haven't seen much that integrates it with combat. Maybe have some form of bi-pedal mech, that has a grabbable undercarriage (lolnuts ) that you need to grapple and swing until you're above its head, then drop down and finish it.Or have a foe that requires you to grapple towards it, slingshotting yourself towards it, then hitting a weak point and grappling back so it can't hit you with the counter attack. Muck around, anythings possible

Sounds like a fun concept. Here are some of my ideas for a level like that (all of these are possible with logic):

-Reward the player with being stealthy by giving them points for not being detected.
-If they are spotted subtract points from the score
-They enemies could be sack bots with a limited range of view (this can be done by having a player detecter on the sack bot with a 45 deg. angle, or the sockbots view might be adjustable already...I havnt toyed with it yet) Set it to activate an attack animation.
-The player could then pop down behind sockbot enemies and do a kind of stealth kill by grabbing the enemy (grab switch = destroy and points)
-You could use a sticker to activate smoke bombs in some areas too to turn off the motion detectors.

I think this would make a really fun stealth level.
