Can someone tell me the basics of making a level like Hedge Hopper?

Archive: 3 posts

I want to give a survival challenge a go so I've decided to try out a game like Hedge Hopper where the level moves from right to left and never ends until you actually die. From what I can tell an emitter must be used but how do MM have the level move from right to left? And how do they get each section to match up so seamlessly? Or am I being totally ignorant right now and asking a pretty huge question?2011-01-30 21:58:00

In hedge hopper, small sections of level are emitted and move from right to left across the screen. Sackboy isn't moving, the level sections are. Sackboy is prevented from leaving the immediate area by gas on either end of the screen.

The emitters that create the level sections are controlled by a randomizer. Initially only a couple emitters are used. As the level progresses (by means of a timer) the first randomizer is disabled and a new one that has additional options becomes active.

I couldn't say it better myself.
