The Tale of Veronia

Hey guys, this is my first level/ cutscene I have ever published between LBP 1 & 2. It took me a lot of time to get all of the sackbots motions timed correctly. I actually used other sackbots to pull their logic switces. Please let me know what you think.

Awesome work on this one! Liked your voice acting, very good and for your first time synching sackbots, that was pretty darn well! The movie had a nice message to it and I hope a lotta other people get to see it, yay it etc. Top show! 2011-02-01 09:54:00

Synching the bots was an absolute nightmare at times. Everything had to be synched up to the music as well which made it more difficult. I was close to pulling out my hair trying to synch the fight scene. But eventually I figured it out by acting out the using of a grab switch and matching up from there. It definitely gave me a firm understanding of sackbots and their capabilities though, so it should be much easier to use them in my future projects.2011-02-01 10:47:00

Hey Pojo_King,

I had a chance to check out your film the other day. I really enjoyed it. Nice use of voice over work in the film! The materials and layout you used for your level really sold it to me. The environment seemed very authentic AND the clothing of the actors was spot on as well. A fun and enjoyable film to watch. I'm definitely interested to see your creations in the future.

On a side note, do you have the History Pack by MM? There's an audio clip of swords and what not. Might help!

I haven't played a community movie before, so this is new for me. OK, I write this as I play (or in this case, watch), so bear with me:

Book looks nice, though the markings seem to just be scattered randomly. Music is nice. The sound could be a bit better, but it's good enough. In the slap bit, I would set the sackbot's behavior to 'Sackboy', it seems werid seeing his head spinning. Plus, why are they slapping? I liked the fight scene, very cool. Ah, nice ending

Overall, a very nice movie. The only other improvment I can think of is, really, the king should wear a crown

lol, I'm not sure I had a crown unlocked in my costumes. But yeah, totally agree there. Oh boy, I would change the sackbots behavior to sackboy but that would change his entire movement rhythm, and I really don't want to mess with re-recording all that. I will keep it in mind for the future though. Not sure how i would get a clearer audio sound. I had my eye right next to me when I recorded, maybe that is why? But I had the impression that all recorded sounds sounded a little muffled. None the less thanks for all the comments guys. I think I am going to start on an actual level pretty soon.2011-02-01 22:01:00

Hey, just watched it!

I don't have much to say.
It was nice and cute. I liked that you used your voice to tell the story!
You could improve the scenery a bit. It didn't look like a big kingdom. It looked more like... well. It could be a lot better!
Also the castle inside could need a bit better design.
The sackbot timing was good but some movements where a bit weird and reminded me: "Well... they are sackboys!" ...if you know what I mean!^^
Well and I'd change the background though. Maybe you'll find a better one. I didn't like the garden fence in the background because it doesn't fit so well with the theme!

But I saw that you've put in a lot of effort, so there's a 'Yay' for you!

I'll give it a watch soon (psnRabbodirect). Seems pretty well rated so far anyway! Could you F4F with mine too? http://lbp.me/v/xeqtb9 (I have some small steering issues to sort out but any feedback is welcome)2011-02-02 21:25:00

Watched it there and it's really good!! Gave it a Yay! I can't imagine ever going through all that sack-bot syncing!? At the catapult part I could barely hear your voice though?? I was really faint for some reason. If I'm going to point out anything it would be that there could be more detail in the sets. Hang some pictures on the wall in the castle and put some decorations in to make it look better. Good show anyway!2011-02-03 00:17:00

Hi Pojo! After watching this last night I have a few suggestions/observations and compliments. Let's start with the compliments:

- Your microphone doesn't do your voice justice. I could tell you have an awesome (if not perfect) voice for narration of this genre. Unfortunately I could hear distortion in your voice throughout the entire thing. May I ask what you used as a microphone?
- The syncing of the sack bots and the music (especially during the fight scene) was excellent.
- I loved the intro, and I thought the book looked great. The scribbling made it less serious, which I thought was a nice touch.

Some suggestions/observations:
- There were quite a few scenes where the sack bots were running through each other. Isn't there a way to have them run around each other? I haven't worked too much with sack bots, so this is just an observation.
- Some of the scenes were a bit slow - i.e. the beginning where the camera looks at the castle, then pans in for a close up of the guards. With no dialogue, it felt like an awkward amount of time to be watching the guards.
- I wanted the story to be great (even if it was simple), but I found myself not really understanding what was going on. It felt like the story jumped around too much. For example: After the first scene, I had no idea the girl 'died', and I wasn't even sure how she died. But then she comes back to life? I just felt like overall, the entire story needed more explaining.
- I applaud you for creating custom music, and while it good for the most part, I felt like it had too many 'empty' spots. The one part where I'm guessing it's supposed to sound like a bell tolling - is there a way to make that louder, and deeper? Maybe adding some drums on those downbeats would give it more impact. It seemed to be a dramatic moment in the story, and the music just didn't support it well enough.

Lastly:

I actually used other sackbots to pull their logic switches.
Seriously?!?! lol now there is an interesting concept. Probably too heavy on the thermometer but I bet it's cool to watch!

Overall I enjoyed it. I think the highlight of the entire level was your voice acting. Too bad about the microphone! Looking forward to your next creation

Just watched your movie, and I thought it was great. I could tell a lot of work went into this. The was the first time I heard voice acting in a lbp game, and it was spot on. There are certain sections that I was confused about initially such as the sack bots slapping each other, but then I caught onto the narrative. I really enjoyed the exorcism head spinning and the sword fighting.2011-02-06 02:18:00

Very enjoyable, you definitely got me with that twist! x2!
Not sure if you want to add sound effects or not. It still works without them in it's current form.
Nice work.
