Question regarding player specific game cameras online

Archive: 4 posts

I've added the zoom ability like in create mode to play mode, but so far I've only tested it for one person. The player sits in a controllinator which follows a cursor. The player can adjust zoom with the right stick. I'm using a series of game cameras with a repeating input (increments of 2% zoom) to adjust the view (hold up/down to increment zoom in/out every 0.1 seconds).

I want to add 4 player online support, but my first attempt at making the zoom ability separate for each player failed. When both players' cursors neared each other, the 2 zooms messed up, but as they separated, they returned to normal.

My question is, how do I make a game camera specific to only a single player? I can't use a cut-scene camera since that changes all player's views (also, making that many game cameras took too long, and I don't want it to go to waste [made 50 cameras 33-133% zoom]).

Game cameras have a weird quirk in lbp2 that they didn't in lbp1. In lbp1, you could hook a switch to a camera to turn it on, but the player still needed to be in the camera zone for it to work. In lbp2, hooking a wire to it causes it to completely ignore the zone. So if you're accomplishing your zoom system by wiring up the cameras, it probably won't work in multiplayer.

One thing I've been meaning to try but haven't got around to yet is sticking the cameras on microchips and turning the chips on and off instead of the cameras. That might bypass the wiring problem I mentioned.

I'll give it a shot. I'll make the zone just large enough for the player sitting in the controlinator, and then add a followers that flee from all other player's controlinators.

Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks again if it works.
