How Many possibilities?
Archive: 9 posts
Heres an interesting question, we know that the possibilities are endless, but how many exactly are there, how many community levels there can be as a number? I say there is at least a billion possibilities, but this figure can be too small | 2011-01-30 01:30:00 Author: PerfectlyDarkTails Posts: 269 |
Well, the servers would probably overload if it reaches a billion. | 2011-01-30 04:21:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
I wonder how MM will handle this the day they will need to clean up their servers. Because seriously, this WILL happen and probably during LBP2 lifetime. They will have to find a way to clear a certain number of levels for space. | 2011-02-01 17:53:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
How many possibilities? I will answer this question...with SCIENCE!! (Or math...whatever...) Number of possibilities = 2 ^ (Maximum filesize for individual levels, in bytes * 8) Wait...this would mean that there would be more than a googol possiblities... I am guessing anywhere from 3 to 7.2 Am I close? | 2011-02-02 16:14:00 Author: blastroid Posts: 262 |
So many possibilities you have to make up a new number....like kabalajillion! | 2011-02-07 08:00:00 Author: comishguy67 Posts: 849 |
They will have to find a way to clear a certain number of levels for space. Easy. Levels that were last played quite a time back in LBP1, have barely any thermometer filled and contains the phrase 'H4H' | 2011-02-08 22:58:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Long answer: Assuming infinite server capacity, the number of possible user levels would be something like: Number of small-grid squares in a full level: Reading a couple of *very* detailed and nerdy threads is giving me a figure of at least 20,000. x Seven layers (not counting theck, thack, and 3D): 7, stupid. x Number of materials (plus one for being able to leave them empty): Just as a nice round guess, I'll say 200. x Number of gadgets you can fit in the level until you're thermo capped: Let's just go with those same 20,000 squares for simplicity's sake, shall we? x Number of ways those gadgets could be hooked up to each other: 20,000x19,999x19,998... otherwise known as 10^77337 x Number of ways they can each be tweaked: If we pretend that each one has five settings with three options each, that would be 243 per gadget. The real number is going to be several zeroes bigger. x Plenty of other things I can't think of. Which gives us a starting point of... dun dun DUNNNNNNNNN... 10^77351. - For comparison, Wikipedia tells me that there are roughly 10^80 atoms in the known universe. - This obviously doesn't account for the fact that almost all of those possible levels would be a jumble of random material cubes with nothing to do (not to mention any math mistakes on my part) and no room for Sackboy to run around. The number of real levels would be much, much, much, much smaller, but still excruciatingly large. Hell, there are twenty-six possible one-word letters in English and only two of them make it into the dictionary. You do the math. Seriously, I was bored enough to do all this work while my wife watches Glee, so you can do the rest yourself. Short answer: Infinity minus one. | 2011-02-09 03:13:00 Author: Unknown User |
Easy. Levels that were last played quite a time back in LBP1, have barely any thermometer filled and contains the phrase 'H4H' LOL LOL I agree that this might free half their server space!! | 2011-02-12 01:21:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
