Victoria Levels = Tim Burton

Archive: 33 posts

I loved victorias levels and thought they were really beautifull and unique but they are clearly very tim burton styled. Did anyone else think that victorias levels were the best of the bunch in story mode?2011-01-29 17:31:00

LOL, agreed, they did look a bit Tim Burton-ish.
However, I think Eve's levels were the best. They were just so... beautiful.

Yeah, they had a Burton vibe for sure. Some of the music even sounded like it could have been written by Danny Elfman.

Victoria's and Eve's are my favorite story levels by far.

Yea, I can see the comparison. I loved Victoria's level because of the whimsy and gameplay. Eve's rocked my socks off for the lighting they did in there. Of all the levels in story mode, these two worlds are by far the most arty of the bunch.

You know what's really interesting is how you can see what kinds of creators people are by their favorite worlds. Technical tinkers tend to go for DaVinci, Artsty types Victoria, Technical perfectionist types tend to like Avalon.... it's all very interesting. (I'm generalizing of course but you can see a trend if you talk to people.)

Yup, I definitely liked Victoria's levels the best, probably for that reason.
Eve's levels are my second favorite.

Looks like it's nothing more than a rumor...I just watched the credits again and read every single name, but no Tim Burton to be found. I didn't actually expect to see his name there anyways lol

They're quite original and inspiring alright, I know quite a number of people trying to make Victoria's factory-like levels atm, not to mention all that I've seen on cool pages lately, seems its all the rage atm making levels like those from Victorial's levels. 2011-01-29 23:51:00

I like the theme of Clive's levels a little more, but I really dig the Tim Burton style in Victoria's. I agree with velcro, the Int. theme sounds SUPER Danny Elfman-esque.2011-01-30 00:00:00

I don't think it was like Tim Burton at all. The Victoria levels and some Tim Burton films draw upon the same source, the Victorian Age. Apart from that, I don't see any relation. In fact, I see more relation with Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Frankenstein.

@Morgana: Interesting. I'm a techie, not an artsy, and while I expected to like Avalon's hi-tech world the most, the Victoria levels are actually my favourite, because of their looks, but also the inventive gameplay (the Factory's pretty inventive, too).

I loved Victoria's levels most in the entire game for sure. They are very creative, gorgeous, and fun. Da Vinci's main story path (Aside from the races) was pretty boring and I was really hyped up to see the rest of the game, but Victoria still reigns supreme.

But yeah, I'd agree that they're just drawing for a similar source of inspiration. That dark victorian era motif is always good. Where else would she get her name from

Ugh, I hate Tim Burton. Victoria's world is just based on a steampunk sub-culture. It's just a futuristic version of Victorian architecture and machinery.2011-01-30 15:10:00

I LOVED Victoria's levels!
I can definately see some Tim Burton inspiration in them.

They were just so artsy, colourful, beautiful and FUN!

Eve's levels are also second for me. I love the materials she uses and the lighting.

I know what you mean by tim burton and its because of the music, thats pretty much it cause Tim burton doesnt really use much lively colors in his art. But yeah the music and the style some enemies had etc did reminded me alot of Tim Burtons work.

I also had this same thing with Da vincis levels, they reminded me of Kingdom hearts and I didnt know why, but I discovered its just cause of the Music and the style of the level, alot of Books everywhere etc reminds me of merlin's house in KH.

But yeah thats pretty much it XD

I really enjoyed DaVinci and Clive's levels. =/

Avalon had the most TERRIBLE visuals of any story section ever. I really was disappointed in the job MM did with it.

You're all wrong.

Avalonia's the best story mode world ever. Why?

Because it was constructed by Avalon.

(also, laser camels are awesome)

Somebody needs to explain to me, "What you mean my Tim Burton-y..." Because NO they did not! You might say the goregous music was "Elfman-y" but I saw ZERO visual correlation.

When I originally heard steampunk/shortcake level I was really excited-- I think I just have an entirely more 'gritty' idea of steampunk... So from that standpoint I was disappointed. I also found the grabinator play highly uninventive... I had done all those things (riding and grinding rails) many times before without the GRABINATOR! Of course then came the CAKENATOR... (Love @first bite) which created new platforming possibilities as well as a formidable weapon. The kitchen/factory was the most fully realized visual pleasing concept of the series... just thought it lacked the punk in the steam.

It's easy to see how the high-tech and fluffy art style should look clean and without too much detail. I think it's great.2011-01-31 17:53:00

Victoria's levels are, of course, fantastic, but I think Full Metal Rabbit part 1 in the Cosmos was by far the most detailed.

My fave, though, is The Factory of a Better Tomorrow.

Not exactly gritty enough and a bit bright to be called "=Tim burton".
But still has a resemblance.

Really..? I didn't get the Tim Burton vibe from it at all..
More of a steampunk-ish Alice in Wonderland.
