Well lastnight I had some spoare time so i thought of a simple idea. Why not make a Pinball machine? So i made the basic layout, a missive rectangle with a half circle for the top area. However I have a small problem. I've made the ball; a circle that is hollowed out so that your SackBoy can jump in. Then i added Polyestrine on the inside so once he grabs it, the piston that pushed the platform raises.

Heres my problem: If the ball your in gets to much spin speed your SackBoy dies.

Any ideas of how i can fix this?

You're sure it's the spin that's killing Sackboy and not that he's somehow getting squashed? Man, imagine if the G-force is really killing him! Kudos, MM, if that's the case.2008-11-12 21:36:00

Darn, I had the same type of pinball idea, however, I don't have the game. Anyway, the Force killing him would be pretty weird. But I don't know the answer...

Good luck on your level!

It's weird because the smaller I make the ball the less of a chance SackBoy dies...this dosent make sence...I may just make a MASSIVE Pinball machine with a ball that can containe 4 people.2008-11-12 21:45:00

What material is ball made of?

I think the reason it works better when its smaller is this:

Lets say he was in a pinball that is wide enough to theoretically fit two Sackboys side by side. The pinball shoots up, sackboy presses against the bottom of the inside of the pinball, the pinball hits the ceiling, inertia causes sackboy to fling to the ceiling of the interior of the pinball, which kills him.

Now picture it where sackboy cannot move. The space is so small that when the same thing happens with the pinball, sackboy doesn't fly into the other side of the interior, because he's stuck in one place.

In reality the shock vibration would kill you, but that doesn't seem to happen in LBP. I think its that force of him flying into a solid object thats killing him.

The ball is made of wood, basic wood. With a small area on the inside that is polyesterine (sp?) to grab on to.

Justin Hopewell> I see what your saying but when I do launch myself 50 billion feet into the air then hit the top of the machine im fine, only when I'm spinning at a good rate I die.

I've been slowly working on a pinball level. The pinball I've got is metal on the outside with fabric on the inside. Usually sackboy is okay. I think what sometimes happens is that as he's flying through the air, his body reacts to the forces, one or two limbs make it out of the ball and if the ball happens to hit something on that spot where his limb has popped out, he dies from the blunt force trauma. What may make him less likely to get hurt with a smaller pinball is that he's got less room for his body/limbs to flail about, so less likely for a limb to get between the pinball and what it collides with.

I'm pretty slow working on my pinball. I've got the ball, a plunger, a bumper, a way for cashing in coins to get pinballs and I'm working on a safe way of getting the ball to spawn and then drop to the plunger.

Makes sense. I guess I'll make a unnecessary oversized Pinball machine.

Thank you all for the help.

this is 100% doable...

if the sackboy is in any type of sphere enclosure that's small and completely connected all around, then he won't die... no matter how hard something hits him...

i think i wanna make this....

i'll try when i have time and if this thread is still alive, i'll post back.

and to try and answer your question, try using another matierial, like sponge or dissolve... it might make a diffrence.

if you can make it small enough, use springs and float material so that when the circle of wood hits something, instead of ramming into the side, some of the impact is absorbed.

May be hard to do with it being so small though.
