These things... Can you even make them?

Archive: 16 posts

I'll get straight to the point. There are several things I THINK can't be made. Here they are:
1. Videos. Like in some levels and tutorials, including Avalonia grand TV screens.
2. Electric waves that don't move from piece to piece, like in Victoria's bakery.
3. Electric lightning bolts that don't harm players. Seen in survival challenge in Victorias Bakery.
If you know how to make these then please, post. If not... Why did they put them in and said: ''Everything you see in story levels can be made by you...'' ?

The electric bolts are just really powerful lights emitted. Straight beams are possible.2011-01-29 08:15:00

The videos are actually stickered pieces of hologram hooked up with a sequencer. Try using the sticker tool on the "video" and you'll see what I mean.

The electric waves have been reproduced, also with the cunning use of a sequencer. They're somewhere on these forums, IDK where specifically though, i'm afraid.

Yes... these are all easily made. Oddly enough... all your examples also utilize the Holo material (if I'm understanding which effects you're talking about). The only one I'm not clear on are the "electric waves that don't move from piece to piece, but I think you mean the electricity that moves along paths on the floor and other structures. If I recall the effect, that used holo as well... or possibly Neon material.

When Mm said we could make anything they can... that is completely true. They built all the levels in the game using the tools and objects we have on PS3's... the exact same way we do. They just have a tighter community of people in the same building to bounce things off of each other... and get paid handsomely to do it.

Every cutscene that you see in Story mode is actually made in LBP2.2011-01-29 13:29:00

yes all you see on story mode is possible since they are build using same editor All you talking about is mostly hologram tricks, holograms can overlap and be invisible allowing to make such kind of animation, check my Real TV from the beta, all made of holograms:

But I still don't get one thing: The tutorial videos in first few levels. They CAN'T be made.2011-01-29 16:10:00

Yea, those can't be done...

I asked this to a friend earlier. Can anyone actually explain how the electricity moves through the piece without just saying "holgram". That doesn't help.2011-01-29 16:35:00

Holgram + danger tweaked (electricity) + battery's on a sequencer...not very difficult just time consuming

Uhm, I'm pretty sure that the hologram pieces are moving, and there are tags on the corner that change their direction; your solution would require an absurdly huge number of hologram pieces (not to mention cables and batteries) to reach that smoothness

no fodawim got it pretty much spot on.
remember, the level designers get paid to spen time doing this - so it doesnt matter how time consuming it is.

I assume you're all speaking of the last level in Victoria's place? Those parts with the electric hologram "snake" that move around the platforms? I'm fairly certain this uses movers and tags to change direction, as during lag while playing with a friend, the squares actually separated slightly, but kept moving as if by movers. I mean, it could use sequencers timed perfectly for the direction change (which I guess is entirely possible), but it doesn't uses a bunch of separate hologram blocks. Or it'd be like 100000000 different blocks in some of the areas.

ah interesting, i just assumed that with a high enough frame rate it would give the impression of movement rather than jerking along(the basis of all aniomation )
but since my last post i did a little experiment and found that changing the active follower is a much quicker technique

Yeah it's all possible, it just takes a bit of brain thinking to do.2011-01-30 02:51:00
