Where are the epic instruments?

Archive: 11 posts

I really hope media molecule eventually gives us access to actual orchestra and horn instruments with maybe a beastly huge drum instead of just the synth stuff they have now. Think about the awesome battle music people could make with those tools. I hope the creator pack includes these.2011-01-29 05:38:00

I have to agree. Right now we are really just stuck with just making ChipTune-sounding music with the instruments given. I'd even spend a few bucks on DLC that included orchestral instruments if I had to, but anything would be better at this point.2011-01-29 06:41:00

Yep. At the very least, we need:

Acoustic guitar
Non-synth strings
Brass
Timpani
And ideally, singing (not words, more like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjfParOjjU4) or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgZXiHfNt0M))

Here's hoping for a music pack DLC; I know I'm not the only one that'd buy it in a heartbeat.

There's a reason they kept it simple. If you start adding in complex and intricate instruments, the problem becomes sound quality and note transition. Look no further than the song creation studio in Guitar Hero Wold Tour to see why this doesn't work. When you play a guitar, the transition between notes has a distinctive sound, but you lose that if you place individual notes, because it doesn't take transitions into account. Also, sounds like guitars are very complex and require a lot more (ok, I'm not computer genius, so the following terms might not be 100% correct) data.

If they're gonna go anywhere with the music sequencer, I hope Sony puts out an attachment that allows guitars to actually be plugged into a PS3 so we can directly record a guitar. I don't play, but I'd love to hear what people came up with.

But when it comes to epic drums and timpani and stuff like that, I completely agree, we need more.

@dr_murk You right, sequencer can only do piano format but even so more realistic instruments samples would be great.

Reason why we currently have more synth then real sounds is fact that 1st once are easier and cheaper to be made, realistic needs more work. Also don't forget that sequencer is the youngest LBP2 feature. I bet there will be DLC that adds even more instruments

ya, i dont know how accurate of a comparison this is, but garage band totally nailed down the accurate sound of all the orchestral pieces. once again, im sure the computer software if more powerful than the music sequencer, but still, it seems like it should be do-able.2011-01-30 22:02:00

I am longing for orchestra instruments, it is the one thing I prayed the sequencer to have, but failed to do so. The "Strings" are horrible!

I really want the following:

Flute
Clarinet
Orchestra Strings (grouped)
Violin
Brass instruments (Trumpets, French Horns ETC)
And a choir would be fantastic

I would pay a full premium pack price JUST for these instrument additions.

They also need to make the sequencer a little more powerful, so for instance, we need smaller notes for fast paced music. Right now I believe you can only go up to 1/16th, I think this should be increased to 1/32. Lastly, the best thing to add although I doubt it is possible, is a program that is exactly the same as the sequencer, only we can design tunes on the computer and somehow put them into LittleBigPlanet.

I really want to re-create tracks from the MediEvil series, however it will sound silly with all those 8bit instruments. The only good one is the harp. Also is it me or does the reverb for music seem broken?

What would be amazing would be if midi files could be imported into the game. Of course better sounding instruments would be needed but just having the ability to import the songs I make in fl studio would be awesome.2011-02-10 00:28:00

If you have the singstar microphones, they attach through standard audio jack into the usb slot. I wonder how good the sound quality will be if I simply plug a laptop's audio out into the singstar audio in and let it play a few (completely non licensed) pieces of music using the voice record feature. Also I wonder if singing can actually be synced with the in game music the same way.2011-02-10 23:20:00

It's quite likely that we won't be seeing high-quality samples in the LBP Sequencer any time soon. There are numerous reasons why the selection of instruments we have are synths and very digital-sounding mock-ups of real instruments. I think the biggest reason is to keep the sequencer nice and bitesize and easy to load when put into a level.

My advice would be to warm up to the digital sounds or forget about the sequencer altogether. Sadly, the "epic" instruments aren't coming. Though to be honest, I would be happy with cheap, crappy sounding brass, flutes, choir etc.
