Just a little versus survival level I created over the last couple of days, which I hope you will enjoy.

Do play it with someone else, I've set it up in such a way that it automatically ends if only one player is left.

Feedback would of course be appreciated.

Thank you. I hope you will enjoy the gameplay, too.

Edit: Forgot to set it to versus. Fixed.

Played this today with a random player.
Pretty cool stuff.
You could add more, but it works well just being as simple as it is gameplay wise.

Thanks. What would you like to see?

I should probably mention that this level more or less forms the basis for a bigger strategy game, which I intend on building some day.

Updated the scoring system. For some reason it deducted points from the player who shot another ship instead of the player who controlled the ship that was being hit. So I had to take that element out.
Also fixed a camera issue.

Really amazed by the amounts of plays this got in half a day. I haven't had that many plays on any one of my LBP 1 levels after a year!

Hey dude this was pretty fun! Liked the fire that would come out as soon as you were shot, and how you had to repair. The How-to controls with the ship visually showing you was a nice touch as well. I wish the cannons had a little more range, but I understand that can be hard to do without it looking skewed because of the boats changing position.

The only thing that disappoints me about this level, is I have been working on a level really similar to this, although it is coop for 4P's it still looks a lot similar, and now I'm afraid I'll be accused of copying.

Oh well, nice job, pretty catchy, I'll definetly check it out again later! I gave it a thumbs up.

Thanks!
I can easily change the range of the cannons. I wasn't quite sure how big it should be, because I wanted the players to stay reasonably close together and not be able to shoot another ship on the side of the map.

Just publish your level. I doubt that anyone will really be bothered by it looking similar. There are only so many themes you can use.

By the way, if anyone encounters any camera issue could they please be more specific than just saying that there are some. I would like to fix them, but I don't know what to look for. I haven't encountered them even though I played a couple of times with random people.

I came across this the other day and absolutely loved it at the time, so i thought i'd drop some feedback here now!

I love the setting and background design, there's so much too it and it really shines (no pun intended) as an exotic, caribbean landscape.

The game play is awesome, reminds me of some of the old battleships games from back in the day.

It would be nice if the ships could turn a little faster, but other than that there's not anything negative to say about it!

I will definitely be returning to this level.

Played your level today!

I honestly think this one is going to be MM picked, no doubt about that. A very intricate and unique game. It's a whole new breed of Top-Down games within LBP2. The environment is top notch and the gameplay is great. I also liked the fact you could switch songs at the beginning if you wanted. That was pretty neat.

-- The only thing that "threw me off" was the flaming ship part. I couldn't tell if my ship was very seriously damaged or had just begun to display damage. Maybe a bar that displays health underneath each ship or under the character icons in the corner? (I think of something similar to the Paintanator hit detector thingy)

Nonetheless, I was really impressed with what you have! -- Hearted!

On a side note, if you ever have the time could you please give my level a play? I'd greatly appreciate it. Any and all types of feedback would be helpful
If you're interested, Info is in my signature, thanks!!

Really happy that you all seem to enjoy it.

I'm very surprised by the amount of plays it got. It now has more plays than my most played LBP1 level had after over a year and being MMpicked.

I've been thinking about doing that and am still undecided. One the one hand you are right, it would be nice if they turned faster but on the other hand it adds some strategy to the gameplay in my opinion. I will see if I can come up with a different handling model.

For the water I used green jelly. I think you can find it in the second set of levels.

Yeah, that's something I should probably add. Need to find a way that fits with the rest of the level.

I've queued your level.

I personally found it very hard to make myself point the control stick towards where I want to go. It worked, but the inner gamer in me said "no, that's not right." I think it's because this style of game (and ship controls in general) usually have a left/right option and a forward option (and backward, since this is LBP and nobody wants to get stuck in a corner!). You might play around with that (or make an option to switch control types if you're feeling adventurous).

That said, it was a blast to play once I figured it out and it looks pretty. Yay'd and ... forgot to heart. Dagnabbit. Guess I'll have to play again. ;3

Thank you. I will mess around with controls later today and see if I can come up with something good. I deliberately chose not to have a reverse option because those are sailboats and they can't usually reverse.

Edit: Mad a small change to the handling model. Still no reversing, but the turning circle is a bit smaller.

I'll take care of that.

I really have problems with getting the score givers to work as I want them to. "Only you" seems to result in player one getting all the points instead of the person on whose ship the score giver is. :/

Glad you enjoyed it.

Having just had a look at comphy's Prius level I think I will take some cues from it and improve the handling of the ships. I probably won't the ability to reverse though. Instead I will try to make sure that you can't get stuck.
All that should be coming before the weekend.

Just updated this level. Completely overhauled the handling model. Cornering is smoother. You can now reverse (very slowly)! o/

As soon as someone found the answer to me score giver problem (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=47091-Deducting-points-from-players) I will update the scoring system a bit more as well.

This is really a fun level. My brother and me had a blast playing it. Question thou, why don't you make the cannon balls go further, why don't they disappear until they hit the enemy or the wall?
I'm not pointing out a negative here, just being curious. Is it because of gameplay balance?

Thanks.

Yeah, that for gameplay balance. I could of course let them go a little bit further, but being able to shoot an enemy from the other side of the map would probably make it less fun. (A bit like snipers in FPS games!). I can easily change that, though. Depends on how many people want.

Edit: Apparently people prefer left stick control as it was in the beginning. I shall change it back.

Scoring system updated! Thanks to Nuclearfish for showing me how to do this you now lose points for repairing your ship. Handling were changed yet again too. I will never make everyone happy with those so I will probably leave them as they are now.2011-02-03 19:26:00

Fantastic level - One of my favourites so far, as the gameplay is just super slick. However I'm wondering how you did all of that gorgeous looking landscape. Did you make use of the 3d layer glitch, or is it only 3 layers?

Simply superb
