How do I make a trap door?

Archive: 9 posts

Hi guys,

I need some help with making a trap door, can anybody help?

What I'm hoping to do is:
-Spawn SB onto a platform
-Have 2 sections of that platform split open (was hoping that they would hang horizontally like in Grab & Swing where you have to grab the red shape and press down)
-SB drops through
-Trap door returns to original position

I'm working in the front layer (physical layer not thin) so I don't know if that will impact anything.

Any advice would be most appreciated

LBP1 mechanics: trapdoor attached to a thin layer behind the platform with a whobly bolt; tweak the angles for the closed and open state, set receiving input to Direction and wire it up with whatever has to trigger it (and have that reset after a timer expires).

I've tried to get the logic working on this but I'm struggling. I've placed a microchip on the wobble bolt and a player sensor, counter and timer (with the settings you recommended) but can't seem to get it working.

Could you explain how to wire this all up?

I have drawn it out in a schematic in my original reply. I could have made a mistake, but I don't think so. If you keep having problems, hook me up on PSN in about 3-4 hours (PSN ID Stellakris).2011-01-28 15:31:00

You could also try this:

It works for me so hopefully it will work for you too

Just put the microchip closer to the centre of the platforms and that's where the player sensor will trigger.

Hey there OTM Shank,

Still can't get it to work What do I wire up to the microchip? Also, where do I find "Input Action" or is that an LBP1 rather than 2 feature?

Hi!

(Sorry for late reply I live on the other side of the world)

Ok so you don't need to wire anything up to the microchip, you can just use a player sensor and timer on any object doesn't have to be in a microchip.

What will happen is the microchip will be where the sensor's trigger radius is, but you can just put the sensor on the wall or wherever you like.

The "input action" is found by putting your popit cursor over the wobble bolt/timer/ and pressing square, this brings up a menu and it will be about the 3rd one down on the timer and near the bottom for the wobble bolt.

I'll try and make a short video for you, also I have found that there is a slight delay between being triggered and opening the trap door. I'll see if I can get it instant as well.

So I've done up a short video, its a really basic trap door, you can build "better" ones using more logic but hopefully this will be what you need or to give you some ideas.

The only weird thing I found was I had to set one wobble bolt on reverse and the other not probably from mirroring the object, either way hope it helps.
