Putting a tag on an object should have option to turn whole object into the tag.

Rigid connections option too. basically a tag sensor goes off any time part of the object with the tag on it enters the sensor's radius.2011-01-28 07:43:00

I believe you can do this with invisible holo and an impact sensor to detect touch and require a tag, but I'm not at home to test it for certain.2011-01-28 08:55:00

You can always just make the tag really big, if yer lazy. 2011-01-28 09:30:00

Not sure if you're joking but to clarify for those that don't realise, tags act as a single point co-ordinate, located at the center of the tag (or the center of the microchip that the tag is in. The size of the tag won't actually affect how it is picked up by the tag sensors.

the idea is that it lets a tag sensor me activated by complex shaped objects simply by putting a tag on that object. say u made a person shaped object, and u want a tag sensor to go off and time any part of the person object gets in its radius. theres no simple way of doing this. so if tag sensors could turn an entire object into a tag's hit box, a lot of options would open up.2011-01-30 00:08:00

Yeah, it was a joke, maybe I should've clarified that, huh?

You can do this using holomaterial and impact sensors. Problem solved. 2011-01-30 03:29:00

As a number of people have stated, you CAN do this with holo material and impact sensors, but there have been numerous complains about impact sensors not working at high velocities and what not. I personally have not encountered any of those problems, but I've seen many a threaded complaint about them.

The thing is, the reasons that tags and tag sensors are used is because they're so simple. All you have to do is calculate the distance from A to B using coordinates, and the determine if it's within a given radius (or outside, if you have a minimum radius too.) This makes things extremely easy for the PS3 to calculate, and allows for quite a bit of them to be going on at once. However, if you wanted to be able to do what you want to do exactly, it gets quite a bit more complicated. Now you have to determine the distance from one point to the nearest point on a complex object. And that takes quite a bit of calculation. So, while I understand you're complaint, in the end, impact sensors are much easier for calculations.

this thread explains what im trying to do

i cant seem to find a way to get that combo to work with impact sensors

I agree, this would be nice. The holo and impact sensor definitely works, but it is the same idea as when we used to make little logic boxes with pistons in LBP 1. The convenience factor would be huge if the tag adapted to be the shape of the object and was no longer a single point.2011-02-03 05:39:00

it is a good idea so many times ive had to place multiple tags on a single object. and i towuld be good to make a booster in a racing game2011-02-03 06:19:00
