Story
Narrator: Today Luos_83 and c_mckamey better known as "Luos & Clay" released their first few LBP2 levels,
So they are here to talk about their latest release called "the Roswell Experiment"!
Luos: Hello guys!
Clay: Afternoon!
Narrator: So I heard your newest levels involve U.F.O. flying, would you be so kind to tell us a bit more?
Luos: Well, Clay and me wanted to make something fun as our first LBP2 level and we talked a lot about various U.F.O. related levels.
Clay: So me and Luos decided to pick one of the idea's we had and start working on that.
Narrator: And what was the idea you two worked out into a full level?
Clay: We thought it would be cool to abduct sackbots with a tractorbeam while flying a U.F.O.
Narrator: So this is nothing like your Free-roam levels in lbp1?
Luos: No not at all, this will be a Versus level where you try to abduct as many civilianbots within five minutes.
Clay: Or bash into your opponent so he fails to abduct them.. haha!
Narrator: so, its a 2 - 4 player Versus level?
Clay: Its more like a little minigame like in the storymode.
Luos: Yup, and I think it worked out very nicely!
Clay: Agreed!
Luos: but to be clear, we will eventually make a new and improved free-roam U.F.O. level!
Clay: Heck yes!

gameplay
Narrator: so lets talk a bit more about the gameplay.
Luos: Well.. instead of a sackboy you control an Unindentified Flying Object or U.F.O. and your goal is to abduct as many sackbots as you can with your "tractorbeam" within five minutes.
Clay: The sackbots will walk around through a small city and might panic if you try to abduct them.
Narrator: Oh that sounds interesting, and what other gameplay elements did you put into the level?
Luos: Some sackbots will try to save other sackbots that got caught into the tractorbeam, and we also got a hippie walking around!
Clay: and that hippy is very eager to get abducted.. however.. it will cost you dearly!
Narrator: Dearly?
Luos: Yes, you will lose points if you abduct the hippy.
Narrator: any reason why it is a hippy?
Luos: Oh we have nothing against them, but since they are already spacing out...
Clay: lol.

Narrator: Will it be hard to abduct sackbots?
Luos: If your fellow opponents bashes into you it will be quite hard, the sackbots will try to run away from the tractorbeam or resque sackbots caught in the beam as well.
Clay: and you cant be flying too low, the tractorbeam wont work if you are!
Narrator: and how does the U.F.O. fly?
Clay: Its fairly simple and most people will be able to land the ufo on a very small surface in less than a minute!
By pressing left or right on the left ana.log stick will rotate the U.F.O. and by pressing up on the same left ana.log stick will increase the speed of your U.F.O.
Narrator: Will the U.F.O. hover automatically?
Clay: No, but by barely pressing up on the left ana.log stick the U.F.O. will get into hover mode.
You will know when you hit the sweet spot!
Luos: Oh and R1 will activate the tractorbeam and you can control it a little bit with the right ana.log stick.
Clay: and you can boost the ufo'speed a short moment by pressing the X button!
Narator: and I heard that you added an additional practice level to learn the basics of U.F.O. flight?
Luos: that is correct, You can access the level through the "Area 51" https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=46122-Area-51-Level-Hub-By-Luos_83-and-c_mckamey&p=750589 level hub!

visuals
Narrator: Would you be willing to tell the readers about the visuals?
Luos: The Versus game takes place in a small city we named Roswell and is surrounded by mountains.
In one of those mountains is an alien base where four U.F.O.'s are waiting for players entering the game.
Clay: and the city is filled with sackbots, all having their own way of acting.
Robotcrash did an epic job on various animations like the sneezing, it just adds so much to the sackbot characters.
Clay: I made it so that some bots are more heroic, while others
are crybabies, some will sneeze and others will will wave at eachother.
Narrator: so all-in-all you could say that the city is alive?
Luos: You could say that yes!
Narrator: I noticed that you used the layerglitch a lot in this level, how many layers did you use?
Clay: 23 something layers lol.
Luos: Yea.. I kinda got carried away.
Narrator: And what about the U.F.O.?
Luos: The faster you go the brighter the ufo will get, its vents will counter rotate and the tractorbeam..
Clay: Luos did an epic job on the tractorbeam!

Logics:
Narrator: So Clay, you are the logic wiz of the two, would you care to go a little deeper into the logic process?
Clay: Well there are really two stars in this game, the bots and the U.F.O. The first thing the player is going to notice is the U.F.O.
Luos: You do spend the entire game driving it after all!
Clay: As we mentioned before, the craft is flown mainly with the left ana.log stick.
I did some signal manipulation there to push the dead-zone wider so that is was past the default of the control stick. This means that the area where you do most of the fine control of the ship happens outside the area where the stick is least responsive.
I also added a threshold at the very beginning of the power band to give it a section of hover that is wider than it normally would be.
All this signal adjusting is then scaled based on the total input from the stick, this lets me have fine granular control at slow speeds and still keep the top speed and high turning rate intact.
Luos: And what does that all really mean to the rest of the world who just want to fly the darn thing?
Clay: It means controls anyone can master that are smooth and stable when slow, but still fast and agile on the top end.
Narrator: Purrs like a kitten, runs like a rocketcheetah?
Luos: Exactly.

Clay: The other star of this game are the civilianBots.
Luos: We have really grown fond of these little guys so look forward to seeing them more in upcoming levels and games.
Clay: So a Standard bot, of which there are 9 variations with a max of two each at any given moment, and has thirteen recorded animations.
Luos: I recorded the first set, but later Robotcrash recorded nearly ten that got merged and were used to replace many of the originals.
Clay: Yeah the bots are awesome and the animations really bring them to life.
Narrator: So bots don't just mindlessly walk back and forth then?
Clay: Oh by no means. Sure the bots primary desire is to path but is has a tree of 5 basic behaviors. While pathing it will stop randomly and perform one of 4 idle animations.
If another bot should pass by there is a probability that they would wave at the passing bot.
Luos: And the passing bot has a probability of waving back to the other bot.
Clay: Right, but not only are the bots aware of each other, they also are aware of the U.F.O. and its tractor beam.
Luos: Yep, if they see something like that, there is no telling what they will do.
Clay: There are over half a dozen potential animation/actions it would randomly chose from.
It may run screaming in terror.
It may take off leaving slapped bots as fodder, or it may freeze in various degrees of sheer panic and terror.
Luos: Poor things.
Clay: Indeed.
Narrator: Indeed.
*Short silence in respect of these poor little sackbots*

Clay: Also all the probabilities for all the possible actions and reactions are tweaked for each bot variation. This give each variation its own personality, even two bots of the same variety will still have different reactions.
Luos: This really makes the town feel alive. The bots mix and mingle and go about their lives.
Clay: Until U.F.O.'s come dashing in and grabbing people up.
Luos: Yeah, you don't get a lot of time to appreciate the bots while playing. Like I said before, look for the bots to make more appearances in more levels and games where you get to interact with them more directly.
Narrator: So eighteen bots in the game at any given moment?
Luos: Don't forget the hippie!
Clay: Yeah the hippie is a solo spawn but on a lower probability. He paths about, with idle animations of his own, looking for his "space brothers" to take him home.
Luos: Like we said before it's not that we hate hippies.
Clay: It's just that they leave the U.F.O.'s smelling funky when you abduct one.
Narrator: So nineteen bots?
Luos: Well eagle eyed players may rarely notice a bot that doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the crowd.
Clay: Yeah bonus bots do exist though they would only ever spawn solo and then the probability table is low and random. I won't mention much about these bonus bots except that the other bots will do all they can to protect them.

Sounds
Narrator: Luos, You like to put sounds on everything, how is that in this level?
Luos: The U.F.O. and sackbots all make sounds, I kept the enviromental-sounds to a minimum this time.
Clay: and Asbestos101 made a very nice soundtrack for the level.
Asbestos: Thats me!
Narrator: thank you asbestos101! *Pushes him offscreen* Someone call security!
Asbestos: Raaage!! Luos asked me to inform players about the "Music Sequencer Bug" that makes looped music go silent for a few secons - few minutes!
Luos: Yes, Asbestos101 is right about that!
*Some stumble and fighting sounds on the BG*

Roundup
Narrator: So all in all you got us a very nice looking, easy to play U.F.O. flying sackbot abducting Versus game?
Luos: Yes.. at least I hope so!
Clay: as do I, Though I do reccomend a fast internet connection to any of your friends as the level might drop fps on poor internet connections!
Luos: And Even though there are only a few stickers in the level, the stickerglitch might appear when playing against people with a slow internet connection!
Clay: But we are doing our best to sort this out!
Narrator: well Luos and clay, thank you so much for your time and good luck with any future levels and or games!
Luos & Clay: thanks a lot mr Narrator!

Luos..the thread is inventive and well written. It's nice to see how separate creators can come together and create, and with the thread we the readers can now see who is responsible for what and how the whole thing came together!....and it hilarious!

I absolutely loved this game!

I love the sounds, i love the reactions and expressions of the sackbots, I love the way it works so well once you get the hang of it.

I would love to see a multi-level game area, and possibly obstacles like telegraph wires or satellite dishes that lose you points if you hit them!

Brilliant achievement.

I'm surprised by the lack of attention that this level is getting.

EDIT: I've finally gotten the game and these are my thoughts!

Pross:
- the music is phenomenal
- the concept is very neat
- the spaceship looks awesome
- it's fun and the sackbot animations are really cute

Cons:
- there are actually none if you've spent some time in the training level

Suggestion:
- well I really don't know how you should make this work better but it's really strange to me how the 2 other spaceships disappear when you end the explanation. Maybe start in a special room then just start with the amount of spaceships needed for the players.

Overall it's a great minigame and I had fun playing it. I liked and hearted it !
