Story
Narrator: Welcome readers, today we will be interviewing Luos_83 and c_mckamey better known as "Luos & Clay"
They just released their first LBP2 levels and this will be the first of two levels we will discuss today!
Luos: Hello guys!
Clay: Morning!
Narrator: Please tell me, what is a "level hub"?
Luos: Its like the keyrooms you had in LBP1, and it contains various links to other levels.
Clay: In this case a link to U.F.O. related levels like the "Practice Flight" level and "the Roswell Experiment" Versus game.
Luos: But over time we will add more U.F.O. related levels to this hub and will update "Area 51" whenever a new U.F.O. game is finished!
Narrator: So.. This level connects players to other levels you have made?
Clay: That is correct!

Narrator: So correct me if I am wrong, there wont be any gameplay in this level?
Luos: Hub!
Narrator: My appologies!
Clay: Well, one building will link you to a Sublevel containing a small room where you can practice with the U.F.O. that we made.
Luos: Because we will use this U.F.O. for more than one game we thought a global practice room would be a nice addition!
Narrator: Thats very clever!

Narrator: At least tell me that the level has some nice visuals?
Clay: lol.
Luos: The Hub takes place on a military base ala "Area 51", there are giant sat-dishes in the background and military vehicles and personel on the foreground.
Narrator: and layers.. Lots of layers.
Luos: I think its somewhere around 15-18 layers, but since there is no fast paced gameplay..
Clay: Or no gameplay at all..
Luos: A little fps drop shouldnt hurt that bad!

Logic
Narrator: What about the logics behind this level?
Luos: Or the lack of..
Clay: well, besides linking the levels and some bot-movements this level is quite poor on the logic department.

Narrator: what about the sounds?
Luos: Oh, you'll hear them!

Narrator: So this level is actually a level-hub that connects all the U.F.O. related levels you have made and will make in the future?
Luos: that is correct!
Clay: And also links to a general practice room where players can practice flying the ufo.
Narrator: Sounds good!, well thats all the time we had, thank you two for your time and I will see you two in about an hour to talk about another level called "The Roswell Experiment"!
Luos: And this Area 51 allready has a link to that level!
Narrator: Awesome!

So let me get this straight, you guys made two levels already (vs lvl & hub) and it seems to me as there are 1 or 2 more of them that are just about to be finished? Correct me if I'm wrong!2011-01-28 07:33:00

Actually we made and published three levels. The hub, the training lvl, and the versus mini-game.

Had a blast flying your ufo. though i would suggest adding a very slow gyro into it so it helps with stabilization when trying to "abduct" folks.2011-01-28 15:24:00

Loved the concept, loved the scenery, loved what you did with sackbots. Hated the controls. I wanted to like it, I really really did, but I just couldn't with the current control scheme. Who has ever seen a ufo doing sideways flips through the sky? It's absurb, but possible in your level. You should add a gyro that keeps it semi stable, and make it so it cannot rotate too much, also you should tweak the decelration, because after starting to move, I found it quite hard to stop moving completely to try and get that little sacperson down there, I always seemed to slide just outta range...

Plus there was a bug for a like ten seconds, where I couldn't abduct sack people, they floated up my beam, and then were just stuck there floating beneath my spaceship.

Trying to leave helpful hints you, hope they do help.

The ship has a gyro for self stabilization. You can't be full on with the throttle and tilt and expect to maintain a stable hover.

The ship will also not abduct a sackbot if you are too low to the ground. It will move them around but not abduct or credit points if you are flying to low.

The level has a great tutorial that explains all this as well as gives detailed instructions on the flight controls and the tractor beam. If you spend just five minutes in that level I promise you will fly 100% better.

I actually meant to comment on the actual level, not this thread, seeing as how I did play the actual level and try the tutorial too.

But anyways, I was doing flips in your space ship. Flips. Any society advanced enough to be able to get a disk to fly would be advanced enough to have gyroscopic stability on said ship. Just saying...
And I was not too low to the ground, in fact if I went any higher My beam wouldn't have reached the ground and I wouldn't have been able to grab the sack people in the first place...

Any craft capable of interstellar travel would be able to adjust it's attitude and velocity in any axis. Such craft also routinely rotate completely along multiple axes during maneuvering. Just saying...

Yeah but when trying to abduct something into a ship, obviously you'd want stability, which seemingly isn't an option here.

All I'm saying is make it so I can hod down or press and toggle, a gyroscope so I can remain straight while trying to suck up little sack people.
And I will be having so much more fun on this amazing looking level..

You're wanting feedback right? I'm just trying to give it to you mate.

if ANYBODY has ever seen a ufo in general..
They should be hospitalized and locked away

On that note,
For future levels we might finetweak the ufo's controls a bit,
but on that note..
In about an hour or so there will be vid's available,
and you can see with your own eyes how someone that only had a minute practice is able to fly the machine.

What your are requesting is already there as an automatic function. If you don't tilt left or right the gyro automatically rights the craft, why add another button to clutter the controls? If what you are wanting is a button that instantly self rights and holds the craft perfectly stable I'm sorry to say that it not going to be an addition. While I agree that this would make abductions easier, this is not what we are going for gameplay wise. The fun of the game is controlling the craft. If it was a matter of move right, press a button, and abduct a citizen, for me that would be no fun and certainly no challenge. I know that this is not what everyone wants to hear and I understand that this game and the craft itself are not for everyone. If you don't like it, you don't like it, but I still appreciate you giving it a try.

Yes we are always open to and appreciate any comments and feedback but the tone of your initial post(s) felt more like an attack than feedback. Maybe I misread it or maybe one of us was having a bad day but thats how it felt to me anyways.

Who knows, for all we know there are Ali?ns somewhere in this multiverse that are playing the level and thinking to themselves..

I'll give the level another go around and try and spend a little (more) time getting used to the control and see if I can actually control it.
[I do WANT to enjoy this level, I really do, hah.]

(PS I'm not the attacking type, I am sorry you got that vibe from some of my initial posts)

This is a great hub world with AWESOMTASTIC MUSIC!

The only things I could suggest would be that speech bubbles shouldn't always open up when you pass a sackboy. It's weird seeing the intro text popping up again even if I just passed and read it a few seconds earlier.

OH AND ADD MORE LEVELS SOON!

Pushed an update that adds the first interior spaces as well a link to Aya's awesome Spacewar! (http://lbp.me/v/x9v58k) level. Also set most magic mouths to be one-shot so they don't repeat.

New rooms have been added to this level hub, as well as a link to a new level called "Defend the Convoy"
which is a up-to-4-player co-op where you have to defend the convoy from an all-out alien/ufo attack!
