LBP.me-stalking?

Archive: 19 posts

I love LBP.me. I think the queue idea is REALLY great and seeing what your friends play, liked & hearted is helpful for finding good levels. But, sometimes I think that it gives away information that it maybe shouldn't give out. The main thing being that it shows which person gives which rating. Seeing that a player gave my level a rating makes me want to ask them why they did so and what I could do to improve the level. What do you guys think? Is this an ok thing to do or is it just creepy?2011-01-28 02:29:00

I think it's ridiculous. I don't mind people asking me how to improve their level. But it gets worse. Just today I saw that I had a new comment on my profile. So I got all giddy and went to check it out. But it was some guy saying "I HATE YOU". Really aggravating. It's not my fault his level sucked. I wish MM would take this feature out of the game or the website altogether.2011-01-28 02:33:00

That's exactly the kind of thing that puts me off from giving a bad level the rating it deserves (unless it's H4H or something similar.) I would never do something like what you said someone did to you but having this information does tempt me to ask what the person didn't like about my level.2011-01-28 02:35:00

Yes, it's the wrong place, but I'll move it for ya

I have to say I don't like the ability to see who gave your level what rating, but it might have its definite uses - especially to pinpoint those who go round downrating, perhaps? I don't know... but yeah.. teh internetz is invasive and I can see that it might affect people's desire to rate honestly for fear of offending or disappointing.

Hey I'm all about that. People have already asked me for my opinions like you're talking about. And I've helped them out afterwards. But to come and get mad at me is BS. I know it wasn't a good level. I've been working on the diamonds in the rough pin so all brand new levels. And just about everyone that I have played so far was H4H, checkpoint scoreboard, or just a bunch of crap laying there to jump over. If your level is even OK, I wouldn't boo it. But hey don't be afraid to ask them why. I would. But I bet if I had some levels, he would have had a bunch of his friends intentionally sad face them just to be a doo doo head. I wonder if he's going to watch me and wait for me to publish something.2011-01-28 02:41:00

Thanks BabyDoll1970. I wasn't sure if I should post it here since LBP.me is for both LBP1 and 2 but I guess it's better than News and Media.
I had the luck of one of these downraters playing my levels. He/she hearted two of them yet "Boo-ed" them both.

Someone getting angry for getting a "Boo" on a level like the ones you're talking about is ridiculous. If you're going to make a level like that you should be aware of what it deserves. Those are the only types of levels that get "Boos" from me. If I see that you actually tried but I didn't enjoy the level then I just don't rate at all. haha...doo doo head

Yeah, its a bad idea to show who rated low.
LBP.me for LBP1 had the right idea, show 4 or 5s but nothing lower.
It encourages revenge rating and inaccurate ratings (as people will more likey rate =) ).

Well just because they didn't have any levels doesn't always mean they are bad people. I don't have any levels, but I know what's good and what's bad.2011-01-28 03:54:00

Frowns don't necessarily mean that your level is the down-right epitome of "awful". It usually means the player simply didn't find it to their tastes, that's all.2011-01-28 04:05:00

I think you need to be used to that as creator, even best levels get some bad rating and also don't be afraid of criticism.

Also there lot of people just playing levels, so don't judge them from fact that they don't creating, this also not make them bad critic.

i like getting constructive critcism, i just wish some people would think about the time and effort it takes to build a level, not just rate it 1 star because they find it hard or "not to their taste"2011-01-28 04:20:00

As a great man once said, "It doesn't take a good actor to spot a bad one." lol it was Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest
So, too it doesn't take a good creator to spot a bad one. Not to toot my own horn, but since I am an okay-at-best creator, I have made some levels that, I think, are better than many of those above mentioned n00b levels. But somebody else might look at them and might not think I am a good judge of levels, based on what I have made. But my real LBP skills lie in testing levels and making suggestions on how to make them better. Ask royalxpirate or Pulsemap if you don't believe me. Different people are better at different aspects of the game.
That being said, however, I do think they should let the user decide if they want the creator to know what they rated the level. That would solve all of that. I would love for the people that rate my levels badly to help me out and give serious feed back on what I can improve, but it should be up to the player, in my humble opinion.

I have to admit, when I first realized you could see this information I was a bit cheesed off that Mm would make that available. It really does give "Rager's" and people who can't take criticism good ammunition to come back and haunt those who gave levels a poor rating. Art is subjective, and as stated... a frowny face doesn't mean the level is bad. I often find myself not giving a frowny face just because I don't think it's necessary to do that to someone who worked hard on something that didn't turn out to my liking. I'd much rather leave no "face" at all, and just leave them with the play. I only frowny face those levels that are obviously thrown together with no effort and have 4 story mode objects in them with some hazardous gas... those people deserve frowny faces. Oh... and levels with prize bubbles you can't avoid... AUTOMATIC frowny face.

Personally, I think the feature should be removed altogether as it only increases the chances of causing tension in the community.

What are you talking about? Everyone likes Mario... fact.

Anyway, I don't think it goes too far but this system has cost me more than a few "boos" from people revenge rating. Though sometimes it actually brings people to your levels and (in the same sense that some people in this thread are annoyed about people with no levels rating things poorly) they play them and rate fairly. They just want to know if the person behind the negative feedback could do better. If not the troll in them will come out.

They should replace the "rate this review" to "was this review fair?".
