Automatic Scrolling Backgrounds (Or The Appearance Thereof)?
Archive: 6 posts
What's the best way to achieve a scrolling background effect? I'm looking for something similar to the Flight of the Bumblebees level (the silohuetted one). I'd be okay with just figuring out how to force the screen to keep moving, but I'd rather figure out how to make it appear like you're moving through the level when in reality the background is just moving. Help on either would be greatly appreciated! | 2011-01-28 02:13:00 Author: Justin Hopewell Posts: 135 |
i personaly think its mm's secret background tool kit that there not willing to share. | 2011-01-28 02:24:00 Author: ktmbillyjr Posts: 177 |
movers! Make sure your background is firmly attached. Then cut it into pieces. have each piece with a mover in the direction you want the level to go and SHAZAM! | 2011-01-28 03:15:00 Author: Noroibito Posts: 211 |
Hmm, I could see that working. I'm trying to think of a solution to keep them from piling up behind you. Would you just have them set to destroy when they pass off the screen? Also, if you wanted an infinite background (like the train level in the story mode), how would you go about doing that? I tried doing it with emitters in the first game, but wasn't having a lot of luck. | 2011-01-28 03:52:00 Author: Justin Hopewell Posts: 135 |
Tried the emitter thing in LBP 1 trying to figre out the timing and how quickly it fell and disappered was driving me bonkers. I haven't tried to recreate my vision with the new tools but was definitely planning on using the emitters again. Making it into a large path cutting it up and stacking a line of emitters on a sequencer would probably work well. The most important thing is having the pieces stack up before they enter the play area and dissapear after the pass. And to the moving background i used an enormous circle of blue glass on a very fast motor bolt, i then lined up the play area on the circle to give the appearance of flying very fast. | 2011-01-28 04:15:00 Author: Ace29 Posts: 132 |
I've tried the circle on a motor bolt thing before... it didn't look the way i wanted it to and it takes up a huge amount of space. The emitters are probably the way to go, but I can't ever get them to stay connected to each other. For instance, if I wanted to try and achieve the effect from the train level, my background pieces panels would end up with gaps between them. No matter how much I messed with the linear velocity and frequency I couldn't get it to work right. I have a feeling the stacking issue is what's holding me back. If emitters are indeed the best way to achieve the effect, what's the best way to stack them and make sure they fall and stay connected at a constant rate? | 2011-01-28 05:16:00 Author: Justin Hopewell Posts: 135 |
