Events group

Archive: 48 posts

I started a Social group for people willing to take part in the events we have planned. If you're thinking to yourself... "Hey, thats me!" then join the group!

I think you can join by clicking my name and looking for the group on the right of the page -> Or click your name, click "Social groupts" And look for it.. its the only group right now, so it won't be hard to find!

We'll be picking people to help out organising the events (bbroman and Confused Cartman have instant access if they want, due to alot of ideas from them) and then the rest of you don't have to do anything but enjoy the events!

I'll be glad to help organise events if you wanted.. Chances are I'm gonna be on this game a lot more than I should lol. Although I might not start creating until a few days after release, 'cause I want to finish story first But then again, we can do that online!2008-08-08 13:31:00

No problems Ryan. I doubt we'll need that many people helping out, but thanks for the interest. I'll discuss with Cartman and bbro and whoever else is initaly on the planning team, and if we need more members we'll pick one of you guys who want to help. In the mean time, have fun waiting for the game to come out 2008-08-08 15:41:00

Community events. You know, map contests, maybe a competition to see who beats a difficult puzzle level first, map collaborations, ect, ect.

Yep, along with times, dates, prizes, sticker placements (pirze stickers only)

I'll probably start organising once we have an actual release date and when we're closer to release so that we know exactly who's planning to takepart. Its gonna be hard with all the time-frames we are in, but at the same time, makes things easier (e.g. somebody makes a level, everybody wants to play it, us Europeans may be asleep so you westerners can have a play...)

A load of stuff like that. It will take a fair amount of planning, but if we have too many people planning it will get too confusing.. "Too many cooks spoil the broth" you know? That sorta thing. 3 is fine atm, we'll keep you informed on the groups message board

Yeah, that's cool makes perfect sense not to have tons of people trying to do it all. Us other guys can still make items/levels for the others to play on though right?2008-08-08 16:41:00

No.

Just kidding. Ofcourse, we are organising it for you guys! heres a quick example:

"Month 1 of lbp, participating users have 1 month to create a level with a haloween theme. [Deadline date + time]

The winner will recieve the prize sticker [any possible extra prizes] and the right to choose/judge next months theme"

alot is still undecided though, like if the levels are judges or we have a forum vote. Thats what me and cartman etc will be discussing (with your guys input ofcourse)

Well I was thinking we have three judges initialy, and once a winner is picked the guy is judging the next competition, so he can't participate (especialy good if this guy is a creating god and none of the others stand a chance against him) and 2 others, so there'll always be some months we can participate in the monthly contests.

Theres gonna be other events though, we may or may not be able to participate in them, depending on the competition, to keep things fair... who knows?

Nobody can keep us making a halloween themed level for fun though, it just probably wont be allowed to be judged

Hey guys; I've made up a couple of logos for our group for people who win any competitions we hold. I have an idea to keep people from using them without actually winning. I'll let you guys know after I discuss it with Maltay. Anyway, here are two seperate versions(I am partial to the second one). Let me know what you think:

http://i35.tinypic.com/95vqeu.jpg

Also, I realize the stroke on the text looks a bit grainy, but it will be scaled down before going into LittleBigPlanet, so it won't look that way.

We'll definatly have more focused monthly contests. Some users will be great at creating levels for example, but if we do a contest on how good the story is, that gives more people a better chance. I love the best boss idea aswell, these are going to be really fun to judge.

Haha, I've done that twice. Now that I'm older, however, my education seems more important than extra time with this game. This game won't pay my bills.

while i completely agree, and must say i feel this is my most important year of my life in hs, i will say that one day out of school won't kill me, and i think i can be absent up to like 10 times at my school, and i usually never even use 3 or 4 absences... most of which are spent at home because i don't feel well.

Also, i hope they don't have one of those 12:00 pm releases, cuz i can't get it if i'm at school, but with my luck, that'll happen

Everyone's free to join. Check Maltay's profile. On the right side, there should be a 'Groups' section. Click the one group listed and join it.

As Maltay started the group, you may have to ask him. Personally, I don't see a problem with it, but I'm not going to decide for him.

Honestly, we should just have a suggestion thread, and whoever ends up being the "organizers" can select ideas from the thread. Also, events should be voted on by the community in the forums, in forum votes, not by judges.

It doesn't make any sense to have community contest, then exclude some people from competing (judges), not have everyone voting, and not selecting the events from a community suggestion thread.

The only things the organizers should have to do is set deadlines, rules, and then setup the forum post and run the vote at the end of the event.

(I've been on too many forums where when a few people end up with so much more decision making over everyone else, that a lot of drama ensues. Please open up the process more)

Sign me up though.

Whoa. Look, we're not here to decide for you guys. This is a community project and it's not our job to decide what you like. We've still got at least two months until launch, which is a long way away.

We'll get more organized as time goes on, and maybe eventually have our own section in the forum depending on how popular it is. That way we could have a forum for official events, so only the judges can post there. We could also have a "Suggest an Event" forum, so we(as the judges) can go through and find out which ones you guys prefer. It's just going to be difficult to hold a vote and an event every time. The "Suggest an Event" forum would still be democratic in the sense that we'd only choose the ones you guys, as the participants, seem to like.

And, to address your worry about the Judges never participating, we will be if we'd like to. Participation isn't mandatory for anyone; we aren't going to force everyone to submit a level or object in every contest. If a judge isn't helping organize a particular event, then he has the option to compete.

I'd still like to integrate voting, but in any given competition, I think the judges should decide out of the bunch which 4 or 5 are the top competitors. From there, we could hold a vote. That way we can narrow it down and then you guys can decide the winner. I just don't see voting working if we have 20 different entries, as most members won't play every level to find out which is the best.

You say "woah" like im upset or something. Maybe you should relax

Maybe i'll make a "friendly competition" group, pick 3 people/forum friends I want to be organizers/judges, make an LBPC competition winner logo, pick the themes and contests, and make up all the rules. Or is that not going to be "official" because certain people didn't come up with the idea first?

^^^^
Obviously im being sarcastic above. Just let everyone be involved. Anyone should be able to organize an event. You don't need a special group with special organizers to accomplish what you're trying to accomplish. It's not a big deal, it's just a suggestion.

I see where you are coming from with the "special group" thing, actually. Maltay's intention was not to limit entry, it was to figure out who was interested. I honestly think we don't need the group, as the whole community is able to participate, but any sort of competition needs people who can help make decisions. Not everyone is ready or able to do that, and having a few people run the events helps make sure it goes smoother.

Look, you are coming off a bit offensively, and I don't really know why. All I can say is, it is nobody's intention to create an elitist environment. I certainly don't believe that only certain people should participate. At the same time, someone should still run the events, and I don't think that setup is going to change.

It's been discussed before about letting everyone organise. If too many people do it, it gets confusing, and awkward, and things go wrong. I think everybodies cool with that, and we know the organisers will do a good job.

Not trying to come off offensively. You, bbroman, and Maltay are like 3 of my favorite posters on here, so I don't have any ill will toward any of you. I don't think it's anyone's intention to create an elitist environment. But, that unintentionally might end up happening, and I don't want that to happen in this place.

Like I said, just a suggestion. I fully agree that we need people to run events. I just don't think it has to be any kind of special committee to do it. If someone comes up with an idea, and wants to have an event for it, they can either run it themselves, or ask someone else if they will organize it. The person that came up with the idea can either pick the winner themselves, or open it to a vote.

The system you guys propose can be done much more organically is all i'm sayin. Will it always go super smooth? Probably not, but we aren't the military

Well, maybe users could make their own competitions, but I don't think it would work in our setup. I'd definitely consider allowing the person who's idea we choose to be a judge for the duration of that competition, but I wouldn't allow them to run it themselves and then call it a LittleBigPlanet Central Event. If these are going to be official, then we need people who run events consistently, instead of people who just came up with the idea. I definitely think a "Temporary Judge" who would help judge their own event is a good idea, but I wouldn't hand over the reigns to them.
