After publishing it last night, a little bug was causing the level to 'Break' in a certain section. It's wierd, as it never broke in offline mode, but when playing from the servers it would 'ALWAYS' break. However, I've gone back today, and re-worked the area in question and FIXED it. It's now been re-published, and works great. It takes about 30 minutes to play through it. Try it out, and give me some feedback. 2008-11-12 17:59:00

I'll see what I can do

Update: In the last 24 hours, I've spent nearly 18 hours continually working on my level. It's been totally 're-materialised' from wood, into 'Aztec Stone' with an added background, (where before there was none), so it gives the impression that it's in some sort of 'Aztec Pyramid'. The entire lighting effects have been improved, and some slight modification's to gameplay have also been tweaked to improve playability. Basically it now looks alot more 'Polished off'. It's been published under the title of 'If at first you don't succeed V2.1'. At the moment, I'm leaving all three different versions of it up on the servers, so if people wanna go back and see how it's developed over time, they can. The three versions are 1. Beta Version, 2. Version2.0, and the latest 3. Version2.1

Although, I personally think that my level already has the type of 'Polish' that some of the Media Molecule levels have, I'm not finished with it yet. I have a 'Boss' concept that I wanna include, but just have to finish it off,

I played and hearted it, it was amazing. Definitely the longest I've done yet, took me about 10 minutes. Really the only thing I could find to nitpick about was where the falling/rolling fire logs are, they spawn way too quick for the height they're at, I'd either raise it so you don't get killed by spawning ones, or slow it down so it isn't as frustrating to be killed by a log in your head.2008-11-14 06:44:00

I've now published Version 2.2. I've been getting some great feedback from players who've played the level, & I've been modifying and tweaking the level all weekend. It now has a totally new start, with optional instructions for new players. I've also added a new section, which I won't describe, as it may give it away. From now on, I'm gonna be working on a BOSS concept for the end of the level, and maybe add some specific two player section's as I've still got enough rooms to include them. I've now spent well over 135 hours building, while the level plays for around 35 minutes. Some guy on the EU PS forum reckons it's the BEST community level he's seen on-line to date, and so far, everyone's been giving it praises. Try it out I KNOW you guys will like it!! BTW, I've found searching for 'If at first you don't succeed V2.2 scooby4953' finds it exactly. (It's in the middle of the Pacific)2008-11-16 12:13:00

I will check it out first thing in the morning when I get up, I've got a full day of Showcase Levels to have a look at tomorrow, it's amazing how quickly you fall behind when you go away for a few days.

I just played your level and I have to say it was great. It had a great balance between difficulty and challenge - that's to say that I could complete most bits at the 1st or 2nd attempt. You can see that you've put a lot of attention to detail into it - something that a lot of player made levels miss. And although it was long, it didn't feel like it because it was continuously fun.

Well done. I look forward to seeing your efforts at making a boss of some kind.

Cheers Grog, it's nice to see someone else from these forum's have given it a go. As for the BOSS, I'm hoping to have that up and on-line in the next few days, and I anticipate calling the level 'Complete' in about a weeks time. Then it'll be onto my next attempt, which will pool everything I've learned so far, together for something truly EPIC I'm also working on a remake of an '80's game, but mums-the-word on that project at the mo. Still trying to work a few things out on that one.

Cheers M8, Version 2.3 has now been published, which has had some modification with regards to multiple players playing through the level. In the past the rise from the lower to higher levels was too large for multiple players, but with the mods it should no-longer be a problem. The BOSS concept is coming together nicely, and should be included and published before the weekend. Have fun guys.

I tried your level, and while I didn't think it was as super-awesome as I was led to believe, it was an okay level -compared to what's out there.
It's no wonder the level is longer than the usual level, -it's so repetitive, -back and forth, back and forth, and then you repeat that mechanic in every step of the way. As the objective stay the same maybe you should try to add some variety in how one completes each step, for example maybe to get one key you have to solve a puzzle and to get another one you'll have to help someone capture something or get something for them, and so forth, I'm sure you get the picture!

That said, I do think the key system got potential, and I hope you're happy with the level yourself after spending so many hours!

I'm not sure what you mean an33, I played(am playing) it, and it isn't repetitive at all, and I'm at the boss. However, right now I can't seem to figure out for the life of me what to do. I'm at the part during the boss where he's as low as he goes, and I'm on the right side where you have to walk on the rising and lowering platform past walls of fire. I get to the end, but there's nothing there. Am I missing anything?

(oh yes, and it seems the boss has been published now guys; give it another go)

Edit: It seems I'm an idiot. The lever was right there. The reason I didn't notice was because I didn't think you could go to that layer there cuz whenever I tried I fell >.>

You probably played the version 2.0 of the level. He has three versions out, a beta, a 2.0, and a 2.5. The 2.5 has the boss.2008-11-29 02:05:00

I love your level, but I almost beat it (I had the gold key) when one of the hanger thingies disappeared.

So, I am mad because I spent a while trying to beat it, and it broke...
But what can I do?

Version 2.6 has now just been published. I've listened to the feedback from the gamers who've played my level, & I have simplified the Crystal Maze section, which has been made alot smaller, and is no longer duplicated in the BOSS section. It's been replaced with three new area's, one which has a small 2x player section in it. I'd love to know what you guys now think of it, as this is virtually the final version, albeit, with some minor tweaks that may be needed. Build time now stands at around 220 hours, and the level plays for around 30 - 40 minutes. It challenging, but completely 'do-able'. Give it a try 2008-12-02 04:59:00

V2.7 has now been published, The hints have been improved in the Tricky area's to explain better what you need to do. Especially the Crystal Maze. These modifications should allow anyone to complete the level. If you are new to the level please read the hints. Complete it and win the wheelmaze, aswel as other items along the way. I was playin with MusterBuster the other night and he left a comment on the message board of my level saying it was 'THE Best community level [he'd] seen so far'. Nice coming from a Sony employee

UPDATE (23/02/09): As some of you may know, during the constant updating process I was carrying out on my level as part of the build and publish ethic, I had a terminal error with the game save file (Version 2.92). Effectively all of the piston's and winches in the game suddenly stopped working. Even brand new pistons and winches refused to work. I tried all sorts of things trying to resolve the problem, but to no avail. I even contacted someone at Sony to see if they could help, still nothing resolved it.
Because of that, I was forced to start again. So..... If it was salvageable from the old level, then that's what happened. However, weak area's were eliminated, and better designed things were added in replacement. The entire level has been completely re-worked and is no spread over three new levels.

NEW VERSION: If at first you don't succeed (Redux) Part One - Part one unlocks part two, which unlocks part three.

I'm gonna start a new post for the new version with a few pics.
