Double Jump Impact Sensor Question

Archive: 8 posts

I've noticed a few double-jump sackbots online, and recreated versions of a few. However, I have found a problem that stumps me.

The counter recent for jumps is set to an impact sensor (sometimes requiring a tag that is placed on the ground). However, the impact sensor activates when nudged from the side...so I find that jumping up against a wall can sometimes reset the jump sequence allowing continual jumps up the wall.

Does anyone have suggestions for getting the reset ONLY when on the ground. Or a way around this issue some other way?

Hologram under the sackbot's feet detects floor. Best if it's reasonably high, but not very wide. For this to work well, you are going to need the floor tagged, else the impact sensor will trigger when it touches the sackboy as it falls.2011-01-27 23:51:00

I used what RTM said in my acrobot. Getting double jump to work perfectly can be a bit of an issue.2011-01-29 11:13:00

Why would you use a piece of hologram material if you are going to tag the floor anyway? Why not just use a tagged impact sensor on the Sackbot?

I think that using tags may be the only way to get around this with a Sackbot. On a vehicle of some sort, you can use separate pieces of material on the bottom, but the Sackbot is one object.

The point is that you're not going to tag the floor. If you just have that little big of holo material, and set the impact sensor to <touching=yes> and <tag=no> then you dont need to tag the floor.

I realize that's what ghostingalong is trying to do. I was just responding to RTM's comment:

I'd be interested to know if this works, since I think there'll still be issues if the Sackbot hits a wall or something.

Because you have platforms that are ground, but at the edges they are not ground, you'd have to be very careful about how you place the object that is tagged, so that standing on top of the tagged object is what counts as standing on the floor.

With holo under the feet, to either side and above the sackbot (or any position that is of interest to you) you can simply tag everything that is landscape as landscape and you have a system that can be significantly more robust..
