How do you do top down racing logic?

I am just baffled how to count laps without the players going backwards and getting credit for it

Make invissi (or visi) sectors that cars need to pass in order to make it a full lap.
So, if they dont drive through the gate/sector, they wont make a new lap.

Two counters would do the trick,
one counting the sectors (i.e. 4) and when it reaches 4, it resets itself (by attaching the output on the counter to the reset input of same counter) but also activates a 2nd counter that will act as actual laps.

So
Tagkey for section.
tagsensor for knowing it drove through a section.
two counters.

Sensor switch that activates when going over a section and adds 1 to the section counter.

when all sections are cleared the section counter resets itself, but also activates the second counter (lap counter) once.
when X laps are done, lap-counter is full and you could end the game/make players warp to a waiting spot or what not.
