Micro Machines Rip Off

Basically as the title implies I want to make a topdown racer with little cars on makeshift tracks, for example dinner table, model railway, pool/snooker table the last of which I am doing right of this second the only problem I have stumbled across is the logic, I had problems with it in the first game and I am having problems getting my head around it still, So what I need is someone with brains to help describe for me how I would go about using a controlinator for whichever vehicle it may be and getting it whereby the vehicle does not turn on the spot but instead handles more like a car in the original GTA or GTA2 for example, Any help is greatly appreciated2011-01-27 21:13:00

You could make the car always face in the direction of the left stick, then make a forward mover with physical space.
Make that mover activate whenever the left analog is moved at all, that should simulate a race car.

put a rocket rotator on the microchip attatched to your car, and hook the up down controls to the top port of an advanced mover, and the left right controls to the left port of the same advanced mover. now when you use the left stick, your car will move, and the rocket rotator turns it in the direction its moving.2011-01-27 22:14:00

Making a car handle realistically or semi-realistically can be a pretty big undertaking. I've been tinkering with a car for the past couple days and I'm still not happy with the steering system. If anybody does have a perfect solution to the steering thing, I'd be interested to hear it. My solution is... unorthodox.2011-01-27 22:20:00

I've been trying to do this to, although, I haven't had much time to work on it.
This is the way I'm doing it.

Cars start turning from the front and then the back follows. So I made a couple of 'dummy' wheels, on their microchips are 2 movers (R2=forward L2=reverse) and a rotator. the car also has a body with a forward back mover at the put simulating the forces of back wheels. and i gotta go to work!

'dummy' wheels

That's kind of what I did too. I've got metal plates in the front and back with movers for gas and brake (my brakes are just rocket movers with accel/decel and no speed set to run on strength scale), and then I've got two wheels, one for steering and one for hand-braking. The steering wheel turns the way I move the left stick, and the back wheel pivots to whichever direction the car is moving so that if you hit the hand brake, the back end swings in whichever direction you have momentum.

My problem is that for the steering to work, the mover on the steering wheel has to be active, so it can't run off the gas pedal (if you're coasting without pushing the gas, you'd lose your ability to steer). So I've got the steering mover running off a speedometer I rigged for it, but that results in the car never coming to a complete stop ('cuz it's always got at least a little thrust). I think I've got it mostly worked out now, though.

If I ever get the car working well enough that I'm happy with it, I'll publish it with a prize so you or anybody else can tinker with it.

one thing that is not immediately obvious about cars is that they do not pivot in the middle. They pivot over the rear wheels. Using a rotator will put your pivot point off.2011-01-28 01:21:00

I haven't even started to think about hand braking yet. Very cool design though (if i'm reading it right, my brain's a bit fried atm).

If anyone is interested since this thread has quite abit of interest, Mistervista, Syroc and myself have made a topdown tank that handles just about but its going to require abit of fettling if any of you might have a use for it like a racer or a topdown tank shooter or something let me know 2011-01-28 17:19:00
