How to read analog signal strength?
Archive: 7 posts
Is there a method I can use to measure the 'strength' of an analog signal? For example, ten small holos in a row, and they light up in sequence as the input signal goes from 0-100 percent? Ideally I'd like a solution or circuit plan that doesn't use actual moving parts -- if i could put this on a microchip, i'd be very happy. I plan to bind this to things that offer analog output, such as tweaked batteries for testing, and controllinator inputs -- I'm mainly also going to use this to see if it's possible that other controls on the controllinator support analog input (such as the l2 and r2 trigger buttons..., although technically almost all the buttons on the controller have analog output) If there isn't a way to do this with just electronics, can I suggest a logic gate that works like a 'greater than' or 'less than' comparison? being able to tell which of two different signals has a stronger strength could be handy. | 2011-01-27 19:48:00 Author: Vandalite Posts: 20 |
how about a sequencer with different strength batteries , if i understand correctly then this should do the trick: just stagger the batteries along the sequencer like this: [===========] [=========] [=======] [=====] [===] so that as the sequencer nmoves along they turn on in turn | 2011-01-27 19:57:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |

this might help you. http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/entry.php?2069-Analogue-Logic-1-Fundamentals If all else fails send a distress signal RTM's way. The man is a logic god. | 2011-01-27 20:49:00 Author: Epicurean Dreamer Posts: 224 |
Actually, i found RTM's logic guide on analog signals and it *did* answer my question, although when I first read the sequencer thing, I was very surprised, but it makes sense, and his other a-to-d and d-to-a converstion examples simplified my logic quite a bit for my controllinator too (Man, why didn't I think of using that relay circuit before?) I wasn't aware until I read his guide that the only the digital signal is displayed on the wires, so I thought I was doing something wrong... | 2011-01-27 21:24:00 Author: Vandalite Posts: 20 |
ran into an interesting 'gotcha' i figured I'd share. Do not turn on the 'loop' behavior of the timer. If you do, a 100% signal will loop the timer back to zero and read as '0'. | 2011-01-27 22:33:00 Author: Vandalite Posts: 20 |
Thanks, good to know. Who knows when I'll be wanting to wrap around a 100% to 0%.. | 2011-01-27 23:02:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
