Mover Direction
Archive: 6 posts
Running into a problem with mover directions and 3 way switches. I suppose it doesn't help that the switch itself is very wobbly but I figure there has to be a way around it. My idea basically involves closing off hamster tubes via a small bit that moves between the two by use of movers. I can get it working to where it moves only once and stops but I would rather add a puzzle element by letting the player move the piece forward or backwards (effectively opening up one route but closing another at the same time). It can be achieved easily by just hooking a 3 way switch up to the mover, but due to the wobbly nature of a 3 way switch the moving piece doesn't lock into place and stay there until receiving further direction input from the player. Can anyone think of a way around this? I've tried putting the mover into a sequencer to determine how long it stays on and achieve the effect but it only works going forwards, never backwards. | 2011-01-27 19:33:00 Author: Yoda86 Posts: 9 |
Why a 3-way switch and not a 2-way one? Isn't it your intention to always have one hamster tube open and one closed? | 2011-01-27 19:53:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
Why a 3-way switch and not a 2-way one? Isn't it your intention to always have one hamster tube open and one closed? Yep. So is 2 way the overall better way? And how exactly should I get it to move back to default position when it's off? | 2011-01-27 19:56:00 Author: Yoda86 Posts: 9 |
Yep. So is 2 way the overall better way? And how exactly should I get it to move back to default position when it's off? 2-way is akin to a digital signal (1 or -1), while a 3-way is, though not strictly analog, 1, 0 or -1. If your intention is to cover tube A, have tube B open and the player has to open up A and cover B after which it goes back to default state, then the solution is simpler than you think. Either a button or a 2-way switch with a (invisible) spring on it (which pulls it back to default state). Of course, this can all be made more complex by adding logic that delays the reset to default state, but regardless, it is a digital state: (tube A covered/tube B open) OR (tube A open/tube B covered). Also, now that we have Movers doesn't mean that pistons no longer have their use. | 2011-01-27 20:01:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
Also, now that we have Movers doesn't mean that pistons no longer have their use. Call it stubbornness haha. But now that you say that it would be much easier to make a forward backward piston and use the Direction Splitter perhaps. | 2011-01-27 20:07:00 Author: Yoda86 Posts: 9 |
Nah. A 3-way lever hooked up to your piston set to accept directional input. Or a 2-way lever. All LBP1 mechanics. | 2011-01-28 11:19:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
