PS3 Firmware update v3.56 released.

Apparently its supposed to be just 'a minor security update."
Yeah, as if no one could guess what's the real reason behind it.

Anywho, I read some people were having troubles downloading it, so don't be allarmed if your download suddendly stops, just try again, multiple times if needed, it should work (evebtaullay.) from what I've read.

Mostly the cause if a response to the recent hacking incidents, so most figure its a patch tp stopor at least slow down hackers.

Well doesn't that count as a minor security update?2011-01-27 02:51:00

So, gues swhat people, for what I found out, the hackers already cracked the new security thing they added on the patch. XD
So much for that then...

On a related note, has anyone had troubles with this?

Wow that didn't take very long. I haven't been on my PS3 yet. Is it a mandatory install this time?2011-01-27 04:27:00

Haven't gotten on, so haven't downloaded it yet, but I'd assume this is mandatory.
As for the update, I just really really wish they'd go the Tivo route and just send a feed to all PS3s, then immediately brick each and every PS3 that doesn't meet all or at least most key checks for unregistered software. That would be grand, and if you don't have anything to worry about, then you shouldn't have any issue with it.

False positives, send them into Sony, if it's really false, you get it back free. If it's not. You get charged and get nothing.
In a perfect world..

^perfect for you...but what about the homebrew this hack was made for? FailoverflOw made it very hard to pirate with it so it could specifically be used to allow homebrew to work, and avoid problems with Sony! I sware that niaveness is the only thing wrong they have done... -_- stupid mw2 hackers didn't help their image at all...2011-01-27 06:49:00

Well in a perfect world that would be amazingly fine, however, it's not a perfect world. All the people falling over themselves to mod their PS3 are not interested in the slightest in all this homebrew crap you could easily do on your computer. Or just about anything else you could use for literally everything homebrew offers. Which you should be able to afford if you have a PS3, internet access, and a computer to grab this with in the first place.

Their intentions may have been good, but they shouldn't have in the least done it, knowing very well just what happened to this whole homebrew thing when it came to the Wii and (I think?) PSP. It jumps to piracy immensely fast. Then you have the fact that you can now or possibly soon, essentially, hack some online games. Makes it horribly worse. I'd much rather Gameshark and the like be gaming history, and not see a revival of any sort in the year 2011.

EDIT: Psp not PS3.

I thought I'd give you guys a heads up. PSN update 3.56 is now out and it has to be downloaded before you can go online. It's a long one that takes a while, so if you're planning on playing LBP this evening then you might wanna set it to download while your having your dinner, else you could be spending your valuable play time staring at a download screen. 2011-01-27 16:07:00

Ditto. It all depends on your internet connection. I have a very fast one, I downloaded the BETA within a half hour.

Whenever I try to download it, it gets to about 12 - 22% and then says it can't connect to the server . . . Or something.
It's getting me upset.

My took about 5 minutes to download (Fast Wi-Fi FTW!!!)... The only thing I can tell that they changed visually is that if you have more than one user and you turn on your PS3 there are MUCH MORE sparkles! (Terrific Tip!: If you have the sparkle background and and you swing your controller to the left the sparkles start traveling left, same with the right side!)2011-01-28 23:20:00

It's probably safe to say that the update removed some hax, since my friend with the jailbroken PS3 is throwing random obscenities at Sony now.

The real reason behind the update is to stop people from jailbreaking the PS3 which gives them ultimate HAX2011-01-29 00:33:00
