I need help with Holographic Materials
Archive: 12 posts
Maybe I'm stupid or just not seeing what is right under my nose, but how does the holographic work? I can't find any tutorials on youtube or any mention of it on google, but it seems like I'm the last to figure it out.... I'll give you PIE if you help me . http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQmCK9KIiBbuW2We-hv3zVMyzfBd5Beb6COqzXbOzG14kpf-Xomcw | 2011-01-26 23:19:00 Author: KILLA_TODDZILLA Posts: 653 |
You'll have to explain a bit more. What do you mean "how does it work." You place it like any other material. | 2011-01-26 23:35:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
How do you make holograms on it. I've seen levels where people have made entire video games on that stuff. | 2011-01-26 23:38:00 Author: KILLA_TODDZILLA Posts: 653 |
It works just like neon except things pass through it, and it can be transparent. | 2011-01-26 23:41:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
LOL! O.k. then how does neon materials work? Come on you're so close to the pie. | 2011-01-26 23:46:00 Author: KILLA_TODDZILLA Posts: 653 |
Its like lights, you can turn them on, off, and set them to light up little by lighttle with the correct logic, tit does not colide with anything, and can only delete/ merge with other hologram pieces, it can glue to any material tho, and won't crash with anything. Anything I missed? | 2011-01-27 00:11:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
LOL ok then, just like any other material except for: it can be transparent objects pass through it It lights up It can be set to various colors It has an input for plugging in switches/sensors to adjust the brightness That's about all there is. Open some up and play with it. it's pretty neat stuff. | 2011-01-27 00:21:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
Does that mean it could be used as HUD material, if nothing affects it but what we plug into it? | 2011-01-27 00:32:00 Author: Unknown User |
Yes its the perfect material for a HUD, just use a follower on the Hologram to trace the path of your sackperson. | 2011-01-27 00:35:00 Author: Jayhawk_er Posts: 403 |
Oh yeah, seting brightness to 0% makes it invisible in play mode (you can see it in create mode slightly, don't worry, change to preview mode and you'll see its invisible. Also, plasmafying it and turning off the sound while on 0% brightnes makes a great in-between layers wall. | 2011-01-27 02:25:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
I use it as "tape". Like, if I want to make something that can break apart, I create all the pieces, then I just draw some thin holo (set to be invisible) on top of the pieces and glue it to them to hold them together. Then, I attach a destroyer to the holo (set to not include rigid connections) and i can trigger the object to fall apart at will. neat stuff! So I'd add to tdarb's list: 6: can occupy the same space as other materials without colliding or conflicting, yet can be glued to them. | 2011-02-14 23:46:00 Author: Boscoe Posts: 51 |
One detail nobody seemed to have mentioned: it's not affected by gravity. It'll float just like light or dark matter. It does not however act in any way as an anchor. If you glue it to an object the holo material will move with the object its glued to. | 2011-02-15 06:06:00 Author: Vandalite Posts: 20 |
