How would I go about making a HUD/GUI to display the amount of lives you have left and to select weapons for my top down shooter

Attach it to a sackbot using rods. It would be the front thin layer. Now use sackbots for the whole level. I believe that is how it' done. But another way may be a player follower with a mover on it on the frontmost thin layer. But the camera angles might get weird at times.
