Kirby 64: Whispy Woods Boss Battle

Archive: 4 posts

It's been a while since I've made a level, and with the release of LBP2, I wanted to get something out to the world within the first few weeks of its release. I decided to remake the boss battle "Whispy Woods" from the game Kirby 64 for the Nintendo 64. I don't have pictures, but it's not like an entire level; the entire boss is fought in one area. Pictures might have ruined it, actually. The badge displayed should serve as a nice teaser.

Now, I'm not one to gloat, but I really liked how this level came out. Everything from the Jr Whispy's to the attack pattern in the second stage will bring back memories. I chose Kirby 64's version of Whispy for 2 reasons. First, although not the most widely recognized, this was my first ever Kirby game. Second, I wanted the challenge of recreating a boss into a side-scrolling form (In the game, it still is side scrolling, but the path is around the boss, making a circle. Since most of his attacks originated from the center coming outward, I had to improvise in this remake.). It's not really the hardest boss in the world, appropriately, but I think he's more challenging now then he was in Kirby 64.

I hope you all enjoy this level, and if feedback is good, I may or may not go on to make more bosses (which will proove much more challenging, but possible nonetheless.) Thanks for your time!

Queued. Kirby 64 is one of my all-time favorites. I can't wait to play your level.

Edit: I thought it was pretty good. I liked the way you set up the spawn. The only actual problem I saw was that it's possible to jump down off the main platform and get stuck on the floor of the level. The attack patterns and everything were probably about as close as you'll get to the actual fight in LBP. My only real gripe is that the apples can disappear out of your hand.

Ah, forgot to fix the floor. Sorry about that, Ill get right on it. Knew I forgot something

As for the apples, they need to disappear after the roots go back down. Although I assume your talking about the part with the Jr's. The thing is, I need an impact sensor on both set to a destructor, so that both objects are destroyed when they hit each-other. Unfortunately, when I throw the apple at the Jr, the apple fails to be destroyed. So I had to put a timer on the apple instead. It worked for the roots because the roots don't get destroyed with each hit of the apple.
