Need help with followers

I was wondering, is there a way to get an object to follow you at a certain point/distance? I've seen it done before, but I can't quite figure out how you'd do it. If you need an example, I mean something like having holo float above sackboy's head - I can only seem to make it go dead centre on him xD2011-01-26 20:43:00

You can tweak the radius of the follower to adjust the distance. I don't think there's a precise way to say, follow X units from sackboy though. Try tweaking the minimum AND maximum radius on the follower.

The other thing you can do is put a thin piece of holo with a follower that follows sackboy very tightly (small radius) and moves very fast so it stays close to him, then position whatever you want to follow him where you want it to end up, then glue that to the original holo square using another thin bit of holo. If you put a powerful gyro on it it won't wobble either, and will look like it's just hovering over him. Will need to tweak it to get it how you want though.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I tried the Min/Max a while ago and it worked, it's just keeping the positioning which i'm having trouble with. The second method should work though, thanks! 2011-01-26 21:14:00

do you use the same method to get a camera to follow a top down object that rotates and face the camera the same way as the object?-sorry if off topic but no one has awnsered my thread and it is almost on second page now... I only made it an hour ago! BUGGY SOFTWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2011-01-26 21:17:00

You could use the second technique for that ya (it'll follow the object but the camera won't turn without the local space option clicked) The problem with the cameras is that the local space option doesn't appear to be working right. Theoretically you could just put a camera directly on the object then set it for local space and it would rotate with the object but it's not working like that yet. At least I haven't gotten it to work right yet. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a post about it if someone manages to get it to work.2011-01-26 21:23:00
