ski type lift idea

b4 i give my idea, i just wanted to say that i'm a lbp fan from the sec i saw it.. i'm glad i found a place to vent all my ideas n such becuase i'm going crazy with ideas and what to do when i first get it... it hurts... release is so close, yet so far... so like everybody saw in the several preview videos, there are gear type wheels. my idea was to make chain out of small pieces of wall or metal. the only hard part of making it would be to make the first one... then it's just a matter of copy and paste. then i make it go around 2 gears, one in the beginning and one in the end of the ares you are starting/ ending. give the gears some horse power, and with enough strength they should be able to spin the chain at a good speed. then it's just about adding cars to the chain in a way where they don't get in the way of the gears interacting with the chains! then we make a switch, and thats it! for extra long lift's you can also add more gears around the middle to keep the chain steady, or to give extra power to move the chain. this could be great for "ski" slopes where you ride what i just posted above up a mountain, then use a sled to get down the hill... there are soo many ideas, no end... i hope i, aswell as everybody else here gets into the beta.. it's sapposed to be pretty closed, considering they said it will be for mostly the press and a small crowd of regular ps3 owners... good luck to all with the beta! | 2008-08-08 09:21:00 Author: big93 Posts: 262 |

That does sound awesome! I hope it works out for you, permission to try this one aswell? p.s. Welcome to the forums!! This is just a great idea, I would never just come op to this great idea | 2008-08-08 11:00:00 Author: OverZee Posts: 245 |
I had a similar idea but, it was more of a conveyor belt. I'd think that the hard part would be getting the chain spaced out evenly. Good luck | 2008-08-08 13:17:00 Author: 1000101 Posts: 192 |
Good idea. For added functionality, you could have the lifts respawn at the bottom at regular intervals and dissolve when they hit the top of whatever hill it takes you up. That way it would function in a level. Now, if you are just going to make one that goes up and down, I don't know if it's possible. You might have to make two and have them going in opposite directions in different layers. | 2008-08-08 16:08:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

You can do that? wow i didn't realise that, that would explain how the animals kept appearing in the latest levels i saw. That's awesome. | 2008-08-08 16:25:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I think you could hang it on the conveyor belt and have it slide back down as the belt goes alont, or have levers at the top and bottom of the lif (and on the cart) to make it move. | 2008-08-08 16:27:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
Wow, there's another good idea that could come from this.. Using the brilliant skilift ideas mentioned above...You could make a parachute for your sackboy, maybe a little harness aswell Jump straight off the top of a mountain, and try land on the moving finish | 2008-08-08 16:33:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
anybody and everybody has permission of course to use it! we can even have a contest to see who can make the most successful one! but what i was more thinking is that it would be a one layered chain and gear moving cars attached to the gears, and when the cars reach the top, they simply collapse or fold up, or even just stay the same shape as they where, but they ride laying on the chain, all the way down to the beginning chain, then when the chain flips right side up, the cars simply flip back over. of course this isint the cleanest way of doing it, but it's the best people can do with 2.5 d... well all have to wait and see how this turns out... lets hope they don't have collision problems with objects like a similar game called garrysmod... now who ever wants, please share your ideas of tweaking my version to maybe make it, more practical, maybe simpler, or just cooler... and as for the parachute ideas, lets hope they made cloth type fabric you can hold and maybe use as a parachute, even though it sounds unlikely, that would be awesome! | 2008-08-08 23:25:00 Author: big93 Posts: 262 |
You could even turn it into a challenge itself. If you put it at a high speed, and maybe had things in the way that were dangerous, you might have to jump over them, and duck, slap etc | 2008-08-08 23:39:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
That is very similar to a ski lift design that I drew out. I can't figure out how to scan it to my computer, though. | 2008-08-08 23:46:00 Author: Unknown User |
You need a scanner Lol. Or if you have a webcam you can take a photo of it like I did...It just won't turn out very well Edit : If you're on XP - try >> Start > Control Panel > Printers and other Hardware > Scanners and Cameras > (Find your Scanner) and it should start it up for you | 2008-08-08 23:46:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |

And yes, I have a scanner. I used Photo Booth to take pictures: http://s532.photobucket.com/albums/ee323/Marino6993/ EDIT: Oops! They are all mirror imaged. I tried fixing it but The lift is extremely simplistic, but I really like my vehicle drop idea: the bottom one. | 2008-08-08 23:52:00 Author: Unknown User |
Not a clue with Macs..I hate the things | 2008-08-08 23:53:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
Haha, I love Macs. Don't get me started with Windows... | 2008-08-09 00:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
the whole dnager lift where there are things in the way might be better suited for a more conveyer belt type level, becuase you will be in a cable car, so it kind of protects you from anything outside... but i guess we'll see what happens when it comes out! | 2008-08-09 01:01:00 Author: big93 Posts: 262 |
Excellent ideas there friend. LBP | 2008-08-09 01:56:00 Author: lbp Posts: 423 |
I made a basic version for you on Phun which is i think the sort of idea your talking (obviously this was just a quick try but in LBP you can get it right and save it for use another time <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nImrmjE4TH8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nImrmjE4TH8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I'm not sure i'm embedding my vids properly so here is the link YouTube - Phun Ski Lift | 2008-08-09 21:34:00 Author: dorien Posts: 2767 |

And to embed vids, use [youtube] tags and inside the tags put the video code from the url. (In this case its nImrmjE4TH8) | 2008-08-09 21:53:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |

Cheers for that, i understand the code bit but don't understand what you mean by youtube tags A tag is "[]" for BBCode...On HTML It's "<>", but we're on BBCode, and all tags have an ending tag which is "[/]" or "</>" for HTML. In the tag you put the letter or word corresponding to the command / scripty thing you want to do e.g This is bold text - So it put [0b]this is bold text[0/b] And with youtube you just change the "B" to "Youtube" like maltay did. [0youtube][0/youtube] Sorry if it's a bit confusing still.. I'll try and explain it clearer if you want? Also, just remove the red 0's lol. That's just to make sure the BBCode didn't disappear, cause I wanted to show it to you. | 2008-08-09 22:08:00 Author: DrunkMiffy Posts: 2758 |
