LED/LCD Counter object??

Archive: 14 posts

Hey guys, I've noticed that at the end of the story-mode survival challenges, the prize dispensers have little "digital" counter thingies -- kinda like a calculator screen.
I've seen them used in a few community levels too, so I was wondering where I get it from, or if I have it already and have just missed it, where is it in my popit? Is there a story mode level that I missed it in, or am I just gonna have to strap on my binary socks and get cracking with some holo? Your help is appreciated, and advance apologies if this is a totally stupid question.

I remember in the first level of the Cosmos, (Set Controls for the Heart of the Negativitron) there were stickers for all the numbers in LED form, and a sticker for a 'blank' LED digit. (as in, you just see a blanked out 8) That's all I can think of, hope it helps. 2011-01-26 15:10:00

I made a digital clock/timer thingy.
Lots'a logic (no doubt very ugly and overly complex, but I'm learning) and some Hologram material.
Hook it up, and you get yourself a proper timer.

I might publish it later, but I still need to figure out how to both reset the timer and set the timer for the correct time within Play mode.
I have ideas.

Using the aforementioned stickers and either emitters or some kind of sliding mechanism works totally fine as well.

Thanks, that does help.. So is that confirming that MM/the community levels I've seen have all used holo/logic counters for score calculation? Just seems strange because all the counter thingies I speak of look identical, so I thought there must be some object I'm missing.

Thank you for your help as well, but unfortunately, it's a score-calculator I'm after and not a timer. Either way, it certainly will require lots of logic, if there's no specific "digital counter" object.

JD, if you can explain in detail exactly what you're looking for, I can certainly make it for you. I'm pretty darn good with logic.2011-01-26 16:25:00

Thanks dr_murk, I'll definitely keep you in mind when I begin construction. It's not logic I have a problem with, I was just wondering if there was a pre-made digital counter that I could literally just plug a score sensor into and have it display the numbers, so as to save time on holo/binary.2011-01-26 17:40:00

haha. i ended up making my own too. I thought that it'd be "easy" with the selector (SOMEWHAT true), but to control individual LEDs based on the selector output took a whole lot of 10 input OR gates. unless i kludged that one up.

_____

My Setup:

Object with 27 LEDs attached (In an 8 arrangement)
Selector: 10 Outputs, Cycle Input connected to switch
27 OR Gates (One for each LED) with 10 inputs (One for each number)

Then for EACH output on the selector (corresponding to the number counter), I had to Wire
Selector Output -> Each OR gate corresponding to an LED that needed to be lit up for the number

Note: About 1/2 way through, I realized it'd be easier to default the LEDS as ON and only wire that LEDs that needed to be OFF to make the appropriate number. But by this point, it wasn't worth it.

Note 2: I'm not really sure if this was the best way. I may have missed a subtlety here that could have made life easier.

Note 3: My Create Mode got quite angry with me with all these different wires running to 27 different OR gates

I made this counter with a digital display https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=45133-Scalable-digital-counter

It's not a true scoreboard, but each of the digits are standalone and can be set directly to whatever you like. It should at least give you a start on the display

tdarb,

If i'm looking at yours correctly, think our designs are essentially the same...with the exception that I [stupidly] used 5 LEDs instead of 1 BAR in the counter's display. That made for a whole lot of OR gates.

Dude, they're just stickers! They're from 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Negativitron.' Go into a Story level like Tower of Whoop and try to remove the numbers. ON an unrelated note, The logic based ones sound a whole lot cooler.2011-01-26 20:21:00

Haha. Agreed! Plus, once you make a single counter that goes 0 to 9, it's VERY easy to link them up for 10s,100s, 1000s columns, etc.

For the 10s column counter, This is what I did:

Switch is connected to a Counter, set to go off at 10. When that counter hits 10, it sends a signal to the Selector Cycle Input and resets itself.

Just stumbled across that before reading this, actually. That's very informative and exactly what I'm looking for, thanks dude.

Yeaaaahhh... I had a feeling I'd end up feeling silly by the end of this thread.
