Why an Asylum?

Archive: 17 posts

I'm confused as to why they call it Eve's Asylum...and it's in a forest. I know it's because Higgenbottom went crazy, and so have the other characters from LBP1 but...why an asylum?

And why in a forest?

I know that they actually can't make it like an actual asylum because of the whole ESRB thing but...what!? an Asylum??? I don't get it!!!!

And if Eve's a nurse...then who's the doctor?

Why are they treating patients!?

For what!? (except for Higgenbottom I know why he's there)

Isn't the theme supposed to be Designer organic? WTF!?

someone please HALP ME...I'm gonna go insane and end up in her asylum so then I'll be doubly crazy which would make me a genius...wait what?

Designer Organic was simply the concept name for the theme about a year ago, a simple placeholder.

It being an Asylum in a lush forest area, I don't know, probably the same crazy reason they have a random factory or a house made of goodies like cake and candy?

Why is it such a big deal? Are you allergic to asylums?

Accept it as a cool level set.

i would of preferred a dark creepy asylum with screams in the background but like you said, the ratings. the forest is cool too, though i dont understand why all the lbp1 characters went mad. well i understand the king, i think he was on his way out at the end of lbp1 when he still wanted to be friends with the collector after all the greif he caused2011-01-26 05:53:00

I don't think there was anything wrong with them, actually. I think Eve just found them first, after the attack from the opening credits, looking all disheveled and freaked out and claiming to be from another planet. How was she supposed to know it was true?

A hospital wouldn't make for good platforming now, would it? Perhaps they just associated the forest with tranquility that patients might need?2011-01-26 19:28:00

I dont really get why a real asylum would have anything to do with ratings.. but yeah, I was kinda wondering about this too.2011-01-27 11:28:00

It's a game... You really don't have to look for motives behind everything.2011-01-27 11:53:00

Ehem..
Her name is Eve, and her head is an apple with a chunk taken out of it. For those who aren't familiar with the bible (I'm not religious in all fairness), Adam and Eve live in the Garden of Eden. Eve takes a bite out of an apple from the Tree of Knowledge. Coincidentally, the genius Higginbotham's living quarters are a tree. Put simply, it's in a forest/garden because it's based on the Garden of Eden, or I believe so.

LBP is a game all about wackiness. Things don't make sense but that's the point. Trying to put ration behind stuff is getting away from the point of the game's style. Just enjoy the beautiful world. And the fact that for a chick with an apple for a head wearing a bird cage Eve is really hot. I think it's the voice.2011-01-27 19:56:00

I gotta say, I was a bit disheartened to see our friends from LBP1 not living happily ever after. And while I agree it's a whacky, whimsical game that one shouldn't invest too much deep thought into, it would have been nice to see some smiling LBP1 faces somewhere at the end of the LBP2 journey, after we saved the world. Again.2011-01-27 23:53:00

I think they got their happy endings, and got to keep them.

It's a mental asylum, full of craftworlders who think they're part of the cast of Little Big Planet.

In some ways, this is even more depressing. Someone wants to be the Screaming Racecar Monkey. *shudders*
