"Snow Night" - a wee film by meself

Hello kindreds! I know, I know, I'm inexcusably, unforgivably missing in action around these parts. I just want to pop in and promise a proper write-up about my experience creating the official "Endless Fun" trailer for LBP2, as well as pimp my new LBP2 levels! Wait, wait, I don't play LBP anymore, I'm actually pouring all of that creative energy into filmmaking. It'll be a little while before I'm doing narrative stuff, but right now I'm fully engaged in the process of documenting the world. Here's how this is going to work: It starts small, and then it gets bigger, and following that, even more of that delicious big-ness we all crave. It may be hard to tell right off the bat with this first video, but I'm thinking that anyone familiar with what I made in LBP country will feel right at home inside the short films I'm currently making. Time for some Teebone Tidbits: • Consider them "mood" documentaries. I'm chronicling the mood of a given time and place, and then finding the common themes and stories. • They will be very short, very easy to watch! • They are truly one-man shows. One camera, one editing rig. • It's all real, nothing is faked or staged or acted. • The voice-over in this first video was done with a "self-interview" in which I wrote out a ton of questions about snow, mixed them up, and randomly drew a small handful and then blabbered about into a mic, most of it incoherent. I'm using a new VO method now for my newer stuff (I'm working on two separate followups simultaneously). • There is a new movie aaaalmost done, I just need to get a few more shots and a bit of sound work. It is much, much larger in scope and delivery than Snow Night and I can't wait to share it. • I'm deliberately posting in General Chat rather than General Media and the Creativity forums because this is much more than just a "watch this moobie" thread. Or maybe it isn't, I don't know, why don't you climb off my back already, I'm going to herniate a disc. http://vimeo.com/18774912 (youtube link here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhefiQjFDzo)) So I'm going to be doing more of these, hopefully somewhat regularly, and posting each new one to you fine folkies. If you like them, if they strike a chord, or if you know someone who you think would relate or appreciate them, by all means, it would do me a great service and honor to pass them forward and around. Don't worry about getting them dirty. They're already dirty. And, you can even consider them the continuation of my LBP levels if you must. Here's a screen-grab from the title screen of my new one: http://i.imgur.com/hYglE.jpg What could it mean?? It's a 5-minute city epic about people. Stay tuned this coming weekend for the big scoop. Questions, comments, concerns, discussions, criticisms, gifts, hugs, candy, first-borns? Send them my way. Finally, to all interested in following my ongoing exploits, I've secured for myself a little freebie website at thomstitt.com (http://www.thomstitt.com). It'll be the place to check if you ever want to peek in for new movies. | 2011-01-26 04:52:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |

Hey Teeb. I watched your Snow Night awhile ago and loved it. Great work. Nice to see you are still kicking around. ...and as always, keep in touch. You know where to find me. | 2011-01-26 13:03:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I watched it couple of days ago, really inspiring. I liked the part where you mentionned particles of snow could form an uniform layer of snow. Kudos to you! I'll be waiting for more. | 2011-01-26 13:55:00 Author: Chump Posts: 1712 |
That was just heartwarming... Can I give you a hug? :hrmf: | 2011-01-26 16:20:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
I agree with that. It's easier to talk to people in the snow. Its like a good conversation starter. Nice little movie | 2011-01-26 16:50:00 Author: KQuinn94Z Posts: 1758 |
poignant at times in poised reflection... softer, yes! I love walking in the snow. Had a relationship once based on it... Even once was lucky enough to 'see' rainbow-snow, standing under a streetlight for approximately eight hours... big giant flakes crystal-glinting waves of beauty... I love how the wind plays frisbee with each and every flake, uniquely, yet uniform patterns seem to appear... that hooks me everytime... or maybe it's the visual stimulation/confirmation, in regards to the accumulation, the sense of achievement something so small can accomplish by simply finding 'his' place amongst all 'us' unique flakes... I kinda felt alot of lateral movement near the end... like a car losing traction in the snow... but that was probably just me. BOC! | 2011-01-26 17:55:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
Nice Teeb! Impressive stuff, considering it was a completely solo project. Im going to be making this sort of thing next year at university. Can't wait. | 2011-01-26 18:04:00 Author: Mr_T-Shirt Posts: 1477 |

Me, I grew up mostly in places where it didn't snow, so as a wee laddy I always craved it, rarely got it. To this day I've had so few snowy days in my life that any chance I get to go out and experience one, I'm like a kid again. It's the sound. Once the blanket is down, the second you go out, you're actually still in. It absorbs all sound. There are no hard echoes. It cleans the air of all the noise pollution. Everything's temporarily clear. Grungy old parking lots suddenly become beautiful white sheets. You can almost hear the snowflakes hitting the carpet. I love seeing the shadows of the falling flakes on the snow-covered ground beneath streetlights. Hell I've never even HEARD of rainbow snow. I used to make snow at a ski resort. Nothing like being on the top of a mountain late at night surrounded by stars and fresh snow. | 2011-01-27 19:12:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |
Well, the followup is finished! I posted this one over in general media. Please for the enjoying! This one is far bigger and more ambitious than Snow Night, and I'm really proud of how it came out. Without further ado: The Neon Bonfire! (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=46367-The-Neon-Bonfire-A-short-film-I-directed) | 2011-01-29 23:46:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
Hey buddy.. fantastic indie film. It wasn't pretentious (as many are), and actully relaxed me and put me in a warm fuzzy place. It's funny because right now we're in the middle of a pretty big snowstorm here in Ottawa. The streets are quiet, the plows are out, the snow hasn't stopped all day and I've shoveled several times. It's so nice that I actually feel like putting the tree back up... or at least listening to some Christmas music. I agree with you on snow's beauty, and it's amazing ability to quiet the city. Unfortunately, I take it for granted and sometimes complain about it living in Ottawa most of my life... because we get so darn much of the stuff. I'm gong to check out the other one too, I'm interested in seeing what else you have in store for us. Cheers man! | 2011-02-03 02:50:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
Teebonesy, you never cease to amaze me. I love snow, and I loved your video. I never seen someone comment on snow like that. Me being someone who was born around snow but never "experienced" a snow day is truly sad for me, especially since I live in an almost anti-snow town (the last snow day was in the 1940's). I always wish I can see snow one day, and your video just makes me even more excited about the upcoming days (they said there's a possible chance of snow coming here). Good job. | 2011-02-03 03:23:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Snow is nature's most versatile medium. It simply paints over everything, turning everything into a work of art. I appreciate the beauty it brings to the trees in the winter, because dead, barren trees can be depressing. Nice, soothing video. I agree, nothing is as refreshing as a chilling winter's breeze that carries snow. | 2011-02-04 05:09:00 Author: RottenAvocado Posts: 319 |

Just wanted to mention a li'l note about my latest movie... it's still about another week in the making, but it's coming along very nicely. I'm really proud of it already, and I have miles to go before I sleep. It makes a great "sequel" of sorts to Snow Night because it's all about winter mood and escape from cold/embracing of cold. I can't at all touch on these as wider subjects, but I've got some fantastic stuff that's more focused down. As before: Stay tuned! http://i.imgur.com/85Db8.jpg | 2011-02-05 02:41:00 Author: Teebonesy Posts: 1937 |
I just love hearing your voice in these dude. Brings back old times. Can't wait to see it! | 2011-02-05 02:44:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I FINALLY had the time to give it a look. I'm glad I didn't rush and found some totally relaxed minutes where I could dive into the vid and enjoy it as it deserved. It's total relax, awesome choice for the tune, and your voice really fit the contest...and it's awesome because it feels spontaneous and not written. I enjoyed the vid a lot. And Vancouver is awesome...it gave me some Twin Peaks feelings | 2011-02-06 06:22:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
