Level size/Crater Size

Archive: 10 posts

Does the size of the crater on 'My Moon' relate, in any way, to the thermometer.
Also, what's with the craters with multiple levels?

Could someone please clear this up for me as I'm a bit confused?

Cheers.

The crater size does not affect the thermometer at all.
I believe that the craters with multiple levels are so that you can organize your creations better, if you're making multiple levels with the same theme, forexample.

Ah. so it doesn't matter if you choose a large crater or not? I was almost under the impression it was the size of the circle for your level... not the crater.2008-11-11 13:46:00

I'm not 100% sure on this, so you might want another opinion, but it would seem absolutely ridiculous if the crater size had some effect.2008-11-11 14:21:00

Cheers mate, I can stop worrying whether or not I should have used a bigger crater when making a level now.

Makes sense with the group thing, kinnda thought that anyway, I was just unsure if did something special or not.

Cheers again.

I think we can dispel any myths here with some simple experimentation. Someone choose the biggest crater/circle they can find, put stuff in it until the thermometer is near maximum and make sure it there are objects at the far left, right, top, and bottom. Once this is saved, use the copy function to bring it to a very small crater/circle.

If the size of the crater or circle affects the available level space at all, then this shouldn't work. (Either that or it's an exploit to get more large-sized craters! ...but I doubt it.)

I expect they are all the same, but I can't test it out right now.

I can pretty much confirm that the crater size has no effect. My level Midnight Train started out in a small circle, and takes up about 99% of the thermometer whenever I go into Create mode.

I copied the level to a nearby circle before publishing (for fear of blind moderation) which is about 20-30% bigger, however going into Create mode on that copy still left me with 99% of my thermometer full.

Glad that's sort of confirmed then. Random question... but does anyone know how many levels you can store on your game then (not online)? I ask because i can't get back to LBP until the weekend.2008-11-11 16:40:00

as a related question.. Does the size of the crater on your moon effect the size of the circle that shows up on the planet when published?2008-11-11 20:38:00

Well, from the beta this is what I observed :

The size of the published level is somehow related to how long it's going to stay on that particular "Cool Levels" page. When I published a level, it would start out big on the first page and then gradually get smaller and smaller until it ended up on the second page, where it became big again, and the process repeated itself.

I haven't observed how the size varies when doing searches or in the "My Levels" page.
