Futuristic city background?

Archive: 17 posts

During the level: "Huge Peril For Huge Spaceship" (the boss of the Avalonia levels) the space ship apears to be passing many futuristic buildings with globes or ads on them. I looked in all the backgrounds but it was not found. It apears they used the 3d background glitch on their level? I am at a loss as to why they would do this without making it a feature of some sort, so did they use a background that I just can't seem to find or did they use a glitch?2011-01-26 00:34:00

Check out the Cosmos background and fly around in the upper parts of it, you may see what you have seen in the level. 2011-01-26 02:02:00

I saw that but what was in the level was a background and it was a city with holograms and buildings made of materials. Yet this is not a pre made background so they must of used the 3d background glitch on their own level correct?2011-01-26 02:21:00

Nope, Mm works some crazy magic on these kind of scenes this has happened many times with packs like incredibles and marvel All disproved, and the only explanation is Mm can just work some good illusions !2011-01-26 02:34:00

Sorry to be a buzzkill but Mm didn't make those levels. http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/article/introducing_the_extended_littlebigplanet_family/

Supermassive are yet another local gang, just a stone’s throw from here. These guys were the creative talent behind the levels from numerous DLC kits, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean (http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/pirates_of_the_caribbean_premium_level_kit/) and the recent Marvel (http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/marvel_level_kit/) pack, they are also working on the bonus Move levels that will ship with LittleBigPlanet 2!

Crazy holograms, crazy.

Yes, is it in the glass section and animated?

We all know that Mm simply sits there and parties all day, while some under-credited studio does all the work for them!

Yep, it is! It's called "Spaceship Metal"
Edit- @Warlord- That's a different material. The one you're talking about is the black and white grid. This one is merely a dark grey metal with irregular glowing rectangles scattered everywhere.

Ah cool cheers.
I really wish you could separate new items from LBP1 stuff.
I'm gonna create a bunch of custom categories.

Yea, I already did that with all of my saved costumes and premade outfits, even going as far as separating the LBP1 and LBP2 DLC. Crap, was that tedious... My only nitpick with the new category system is how, when you create new categories, the saved outfits and your custom costumes get saved to two separate categories with the same name! Is this a bug? 'Cause it really bothers me... I blame my slight perfectionism.2011-01-26 04:32:00

There, look it is in the very background of it.. wait a few seconds if you can not see it, there is a time where 6 buildings are shown in a row so it obviously broke the three layers.

Yeah, it's a great effect. Since Holo doesn't have any collision properties-- its the absolutely perfect material! Size and brightness really created some awesome depth in that video, along with the occasional non-holo building/tower whizzing by to give it all scope. I remember once or twice thinking the broke the 3 layer rule but it turned out to be inventive camera work coupled with the wonderful backdrops...2011-01-26 19:55:00

NO LOOK THERE ARE 6 BUILDINGS IN A ROW AT ONE PART, 6 ALL AT ONCE AND ON DIFFERENT ROWS, THAT BREAKS THE THREE LAYERS BY THREE. Not to mention that the spaceship takes up 3 layers alone so any more buildings fill up the entire thing!2011-01-26 22:28:00

It's an illusion, holograms can go through each other, and the other buildings look like they're in the distance because it looks like there's more fog on them, but it's not really fog of course. Also to note, the ship is not moving, the buildings are simply moving by on movers.

Mm simply tweaked the hologram to be less bright, which lets more background show through, which makes it look like it's shrouded in fog, which makes it look like it's in the distance. Buildings in the "foreground" are tweaked to be brighter than those in the "background".

Another trick of this is that naturally, things in the distance move slower when you travel by them, Mm replicated this effect with minimum layers by simply making the buildings in the background move slower than the buildings that would appear to be in the "foreground" of the scene. So all in all, it looks like one effective scene when put together.

Just because something is 2D or limited in depth does not mean something can't have the appearance of depth, the effect in this level is very much like something you would see in an animated movie, of mountains or buildings in the distance the move slower in the foreground, and it's all two dimensional, an interesting trick put to good use in Mm's level.

NO LOOK THERE ARE 6 BUILDINGS IN A ROW AT ONE PART, 6 ALL AT ONCE AND ON DIFFERENT ROWS, THAT BREAKS THE THREE LAYERS BY THREE.Could you please give me a time of when it happens, example, 4:12; as I do not want to watch 5 minutes of a video looking for speedy backgrounds.

Ok most people seem to be in agreement that this is an illusion so I am gonna guess my eyes are failing me.2011-01-27 00:11:00
