This level is a shooter inspired by old Atari games like Space Invaders. I wanted to make a game that was somewhat similar to Space Invaders, but still different enough to stand on its own. The player has four stationary guns at the bottom of the playing field. Each cannon corresponds to a button that toggles it on and off, and the aliens approach each gun individually. The catch is that you can only have one gun active at a time, so you have to decide which cannon you fire based on what aliens are approaching it. As your score goes up new enemy types are introduced to keep the game fresh and challenging. The normal mode has four guns, but the hard mode has eight guns that you have to juggle.

The main things that I want feedback on are how fun it is and how difficult it is. There is also a known problem that I would like some help with. Sometimes, if two of your guns get hit at the same time, you only lose one life. It's a pretty big problem, but it doesn't seem to be quite game-breaking; with the way the game works, you've probably let enemies build up in multiple columns and you're about to lose anyway.

I hope you enjoy it, and I'll gladly go through your own levels when I can.

Edit: I've noticed that nobody (understandably) has actually played hard mode yet. Even though my main focus is the normal mode, I'm actually pretty fond of hard mode's concept and I would really like some feedback on it. So far I've found it to be stupidly hard, but I'm wanting to know what other people think. Plus it's prettier than normal mode. If you liked normal mode, please give hard mode a play too.

To Do List

-Spice up the main hub
-Make a tutorial
-TItle screens
-Make the scoreboards look better
-Make the early game more interesting
-Smooth difficulty curve
-Smart bomb?

I just played your level and I really liked it. The old school appearance is great and it is very addicting. The idea of the weapons that don't shoot at the same time is very funny. It doesn't have any bugs in my opinion and runs pretty fluently...

I gave it a smile and hearted it.
Cool minigame....great work

The level overall is quite good, the idea is unique, and stands out from the other levels that are vaugley similar.

The one thing I think you could improve on is the HUB when you choose Normal or Hard Mode, I feel that you could have had a bit more scenery to it as it was not very exiting, maybe some enemy examples or something to make it more lively.

But overall, the level is fun and addictive.

If you hit L3 it should display the controls in under the turrets. I might not have made that clear enough.

What do you mean exactly? Did it end the game, or kick you out of the Controlinator? Was it Normal mode? Hopefully that's just a fluke because I've played it a ton and never had that problem.

Also, I've made some progress on a menu and a tutorial. I have a busy day today, but I hope to have it done this weekend. Of course, that assumes that I can get the cameras working the way I want them too.

This level was awesome! I'm a big fan of retro gaming, and Wormhole looked and felt great, I had a blast.

The only suggestion I can even really make is that to me it felt like the difficulty ramps up too high too soon. From the start the game has a nice flow, a rising difficulty that just feels perfect and gives you this zen feeling, but then the difficulty ramps up on a huge spike. I'm not saying I wouldn't ever want it to get that difficult, but it was less gradual than I was expecting.

All in all this is a completely fantastic shooter, easily hearted. Keep up the good work!

And speaking of zen, if you're still good for F4F could you check out my level Zen Mastermind and post feedback in its thread at https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=45106-Zen-Mastermind-by-Elijah_Caine? I'd appreciate it!

I'm glad you liked it, Elijah. I actually queued Zen Mastermind last night, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I'll give you some feedback as soon as I get a chance.

I have been wondering a lot about the difficulty curve. I noticed myself that the game becomes nearly impossible at around 50,000 (even though I could have swore I got 60,000 or 70,000 once while I was testing it), and the scoreboard definitely reflects that. I'll dig around in the spawner logic some and see if I can get a better curve.

I played this game once, and I sure had a blast playing this retro shooter.

VISUALS:
The retro 8-bit visuals looked pretty good and colorful.

SOUND:
The retro game sound effects fitted well in this level, and it's sweet that you added one of my favorite LBP2 musics, "Disco Shmisco", to this level.

GAMEPLAY:
The usage of the L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons is very clever. I liked it on how the difficulty grows as you continue through.

OVERALL:
This retro game of LBP2 is a must to play. A 'yeah' vote, a heart, and a positive review.

F4F "Tilt, Roll, and Drop".

I've run into a bit of a snag updating the level. I reworked the alien spawn logic to make the difficulty curve gentler. The point where all of the aliens are in the mix now occurs at 60,000 instead of 40,000. I actually managed to top 100,000 in a test playthrough. While this worked well at first (I think I played it through maybe five times with no problems), it is now completely broken. I'm getting some sort of strange error message that instantly disappears at about 40,000, and my emitters all die simultaneously causing the player to either lose instantly or become stuck in the controlinator until they quit the game. This is very worrying since it's an error that kept popping up early on and I fixed it solely through blind luck.

On the bright side, I would guess that the new title screen is about halfway done. Maybe a little more. If I can't get that bug fixed, I might just finish the title screen and move on. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that though.
