Jelly Cave

I posted this earlier today, but it wasn't an F4F. I'll do 6 F4F's I suppose, so just leave the name of the level you want me to F4F and I'll queue it . thanks

Are you doing any body's levels? It really helps if you do some feed back for other people and ask them to do some feed back for you, after you start getting some plays here by doing F4F slowly some people will come play it on their own without you asking it seems (that is if it's good enough). Still planning on playing this tomorrow 2011-01-26 03:26:00

This is probably a dumb question, but is there a way to make Sackboy swim faster? I was playing your level, and I kept getting killed by the underwater crushers no matter what I did. I'll leave you some feedback if I can find a way through it.2011-01-26 03:50:00

Holding 'X' while swimming allows you to speed up.
Thanks. I was tapping it as fast as I could and nothing happened...

I'll play completely through your level tomorrow when I have time, and then I'll make sure to leave you some feedback. If you'd check out my level too, I'd really appreciate it.

I liked it. My biggest complaint is that it looked a little plain. You might want to change the terrain some around the ceilings and walls so that it looks more like a cave. As it is, everything looks a little too squared off IMO. I thought it felt pretty good gameplay wise. I didn't like the falling ramp though; you should probably give the player a hint about it. I managed to get through the crushers this time, but I had a pretty hard time with it. It was probably just because I suck at water levels, but you might want to slow it down a tad if other people have trouble with it too. By the way, I really liked the little special area that you had to grapple too. I also liked the little creatures you had to grapple at the beginning. I think it would have been cool if you had included little jelly creatures in the background in other places too.

Overall I thought you had a good level. Nice work.

Cool thanks man I'm glad you enjoyed. I agree with what you say about it be a little plain I'll have to go back and see what I can do. As far as creatures go i'd like to put some more in there too just there's not a ton of places to put them though. I was thinking I guess I could put some jelly beetles crawling on the walls in some places. Hey do you havea level you'd like feedback for?2011-01-26 16:41:00

@Luke when you say I should start leaving feedback for other players, what exactly do you mean? like just leave feedback for someone at random or in relation to this forum? P.S sorry that I keep forgetting to use the post editor >.<2011-01-26 16:53:00

Played this for your F4F.

There were some pretty nice things in here, but overall the level looked a bit bland. I also thought your choice of music REALLY didn't fit the level.

Pros:
- Some very nice uses of bounce pads, here
- The whole level is made out of jelly. Lovely!

Cons:
- The whole level looked a bit bland. Try adding more decorations and stickers. Also, add some light sources.
- When I was at the part where the giant triangle drops down, I was crushed by it. Try making a wall that blocks the path until the triangle has been dropped.
- The fish moved out of the water. You can stop this by making the Mover/Advanced Mover turn off when the fish gets out of the water - with a Water Sensor, and perhaps some AND gates.

Jelly beetles would be cool. If you just made it look like little holes in the wall with eyes in them in places, I think that would add a lot.

I'd like it if you looked at this level for me.

Placing your level in the F4F column doesn't always mean people will check your level out. F4F means someone plays your level and you play theirs in return - but it works both ways.

So, he was saying, go into other people's F4F posts and play their levels and ask them to play this one in return. "Get the ball rolling", in other words.

Hope that helps.

I'll add your level to my que.

You know how I came to you and said I'd play yours if you play mine? do that. I've done that with a lot of people's forums and it seems to have gotten me more plays than I ever would have normally.

Just played it by the way. Not that bad, although only jelly textures does get a little old, maybe you could use some stone too, to make it really feel cavey not just jelly...y, hah. And some of your bounce pads that you're supposed to just run over, aren't stuck in the ground so when you hit them you kinda just stop, so move them down a tad? If you know what I mean?

@cymbol ahhh I see thanks for the clarification. well then I shall definitely be sure to do that, and thanks for queuing my level. I'll F4F the level in your siggy if you want me to.

EDIT

so I played your level in your siggy and that is an amazing level. I don't feel qualified to say anything bad about it xD. All I have to say is wow man. I got a little confused at times but I think it was just cause the amazing effects distracted me at times lol. so that was seriously epic!

@luke yeah I was kinda tired with the jelly to but someone told stone looked awkward but I think I'll go back and add some now that you said that, and I'll try to move down the bounce pads again. the only problem was that the shape was getting to complicated so it didn't want me implanting them.2011-01-26 20:17:00

you know guys I've looked my level over and the walls and background are too complicated so its not letting me add or take away from them, which really limits my ability to change stuff . so if you guys know how I can get past this then that would be awesome, but if not then I really enjoyed making this level so I'm gonna make another similar to it, and I will definitely keep all your council in mind when making that one.2011-01-28 18:30:00

- Place checkpoint in front layer at the start.
- Yellow bone elevator should rise on grab.
- 3 layer plane switching here. You only need two layers.
- Get squished by the large yellow triangle that drops down.
- Water section is too large.
- Moving blocks that don't do anything.
- Fish out of water.

Kind of fun, needs some work.
Check out my level in my sig, it has some helpful tips for new creators. (No feedback required)

Not to be offensive but i found it a little random.

However, despite this it was a cool level, and i enjoyed the change from usual platforming.

Like others have mentioned, it was a bit plain, and you could have expanded some of the areas a bit more, as there were quite a few bits where i was just running on a straight level.

Nevertheless, it was fun, and for that i commend you!

If you have the time, please check out my level, link in my sig.

Hi racer1020, you left feedback on my new level for F4F and I'm returning it now. This level had a lot of the things that people look for in levels (water, grappling hook, creatinator, bounce pads). I like that you made it a race. That adds to the fun when playing with a lot of players. Overall a fun level.2011-01-30 23:35:00

@steve lol yeah it is a bit random but I was kinda goin for kind of a hectic feel perhaps I over did it. and everyone is very right about it being plain, i've never been much of a designer I guess but I'm hoping to get better at designing or find some one who is. and I thank you for your kind words and will play your level when I get home tomorrow (I'm on my phone)
@brnxblze I noticed you got the high score too lol nice!

Just played it, and I love the platforming in it. It's very fresh.

The biggest problem I had with it was polish. I find that even if you just use the grid to build your level, it already looks waaay better. A little decoration wouldn't hurt, and some of the jelly colours clash with each other.

I liked the mix up of the sackbots, but the area they were in was too linear, and it was really hard to hit them with the fireballs.

Overall, though, I found it entertaining to play.

Imma back level was pretty awesome, but maybe with some of the recommendations (jelly beetles in the wall, etc.), this would be a truly epic level also, I know you set up the second half to be a race, but could the race maybe be an optional thing? Just so the pacers can glance in awe at the scenery at a leisurely pace. Here's a suggestion how this could work:
1.Give the player a sticker at the start
2.Player gets halfway, sees sticker spot.
3.Player plants sticker.
4. ???????
5. Profit!
All in all, a pretty neat level

I'm so glad you guys are enjoying it. I'm definately gonna make a sequal to this (however it will probably be jelly fields) and when I do I'll put a lot more planning into it and get someone to help with visuals.2011-02-01 15:56:00
