Unofficial Blu-ray appreciation thread

It's fairly easy to stumble down the logical path and determine that - as there are so many incredible LBP fans here - there must be some fans of Blu-ray movies here at LBPC. That said, I'd like everyone to join in on an all-things BD (Blu-ray Disc) discussion. Some things to consider posting: - BD you just can't stop watching - announced BD your most anxious to get your grubby little hands on - unannounced BD that you feel deserves the Blu-ray treatment That said, how about I start? I can't stop watching The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton and Tim Roth. Such a fantastic adaptation; it's action packed and the BD has excellent PQ (picture quality) and reference AQ (audio quality). The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration is unbelievable as well and should be owned by any fan of the Godfather trilogy who can also take advantage of Blu-ray. I'd say that I'm totally psyched for Band of Brothers (will be picking it up at 10:00am tomorrow morning ) and The Dark Knight. As for an unannounced BD, I'd have to say it's a tie between The Mission with Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro and Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks. Both of these movies are - in my amateur opinion - examples of cinematography masterpieces. Add in the amazing action sequences and soul-moving musical scores both have to offer and you've got the makings of one jaw-dropping BD. Remember, my guidelines are purely recommendation in hopes of getting the ball rolling. So, what are you waiting for? | 2008-11-11 05:08:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
- BD you just can't stop watching Transformers! - announced BD your most anxious to get your grubby little hands on Without a doubt my favourite movie MATRIX ... It was never going to be released on Blu Ray as it was on HD DVD... But since Blu Ray won the format war it has been on my must have list..... I have it pre-ordered with the rest of the trilogy (although the sequels are not as good as the original) for early December | 2008-11-11 05:13:00 Author: Chucky Posts: 11 |

Transformers was excellent and here's to hoping The Matrix lives up to our expectations as well. As for the second and third movies... well... talk about expensive coasters, huh? No, they're not terrible, but they're not even close to the quality of the first film. | 2008-11-11 05:17:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
The one I can't wait to get my hands on? Wall-E. 'nuff said. | 2008-11-11 07:38:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |
I haven't got many blu ray movies (as I have a 32" screen so not a great deal of point) but I did pick up 'No country for old men'. A mixed bag of a film with several amzing scenes (such as the coin toss in the gas station), but overall the plot leaves you thinking 'What?' I also have 'The Prestige' on Blu ray, great film and the electrical effects in Tesla's lab look amazing. I'll probably get The Matrix, but I am most looking forward to 'The Dark Knight'. What a film. Finally the Joker played as he was suppose to be, not camp, not a superhero, just a supreme manipulator of men and situations. | 2008-11-11 10:16:00 Author: Piratepete Posts: 110 |
i've only got 3 things on blu-ray: speed racer (AWESOME!) planet earth ratatouille all must haves on blu-ray. i only have a 30 inch screen too (high def tube actually, which makes lower def stuff look fantastic) but i can still tell a bit of difference (but not much with the fantastic up-converting that the ps3 does). but some day i will have a bigger screen, and when i bring my ps3 out to my parents house i bring planet earth to watch on their nice 40 inch LCD. needed there. | 2008-11-11 13:34:00 Author: Conall-Star Posts: 157 |
I'm blown away by Band of Brothers. They left all of the grain in - as they should have - and somehow managed to improve the sound. Simply fantastic is all I can say. If you're a fan of the series, it's definitely worth the upgrade from DVD. | 2008-11-12 16:16:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |

BD you just can't stop watching Transformers. It looks amazing in HD. Announced BD you're most anxious to get your grubby little hands on Wall-E. Unannounced BD that you feel deserves the Blu-ray treatment - | 2008-11-12 17:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
Oooh, oooh, unannounced but needs Blu-Ray: Dr Horrible's sing along blog, Serenity, The entire of Firefly, and I would quite like it if they condensed the entire FRIENDS DVD collection onto a few Blu-rays in standard definition. Would take up a lot less shelf space. Oh, and the Big Bang Theory. I would LOVE Kaley Cuoco in HD? Please! | 2008-11-12 17:49:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |

Firefly hit shelves here in the United States yesterday and Serenity will be out by year's end. Definitely agree that Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog needs the treatment as well. All things Joss completely rule. Why not Buffy and Angel while they're at it, yes? | 2008-11-12 18:34:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
Firefly hit shelves here in the United States yesterday and Serenity will be out by year's end. Glad I mentioned them then. Hope they come out over here for a reasonable price too. I'd love them on BR. | 2008-11-13 07:30:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |
Planet Earth. It is worth buying a Blu-ray or PS3 just for this Casino Royale and the Departed are my favorite movies on Blu-ray so far. I will be getting the new Godfather collection as well as The Matrix. | 2008-11-13 08:03:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |

i dont buy blu ray movies they are too expensive. but i do get blu ray movies from netflix!! netflix for the win Had Netflix in the past on a few different occasions. The latest occasion was strictly for renting BD movies. That said, I was increasingly disappointed with titles (Oldboy ) literally getting hung up in my queue for weeks. Then, as I apparently was too efficient with my viewing of said movies, they started to throttle my account. The quite acceptable two-day turnaround slowly turned into three and four days. Very disappointing. I've called back and the customer service person could not assure me that they're quantity of copies per title had increased sufficiently so I haven't signed up again. Then again, she also told me they had over 10,000 BD titles. That's a little strange since it says they carry roughly 1,100 titles right on their website. | 2008-11-15 14:18:00 Author: supersickie Posts: 1366 |
