GameDaily thinks LittleBigPlanet is just a "glorified version of powerpoint"

Archive: 16 posts

The last 'anti-fan' of LittleBigPlanet stirred up some interesting discussion around here, so I figured I'd post another one I ran into. I am going to quote it, as I don't thing GameDaily deserves our traffic:

LittleBigPlanet (releases Fall 2008)

To hear some journalists talk, Sony's LittleBigPlanet will become the reason to purchase the system. We say, "Hold on to your cash." Despite the cute characters, this is nothing more than a glorified version of PowerPoint fueled by gamers hoping to make their own "presentations". Talented players will create interesting and perhaps fun designs. Everyone else will make horrible levels. If you could design several stages, string them together and make your own platform game, that'd be cool, but for now, all we foresee is tons of crap content.

On the other hand, a much more intelligent journalist pointed out the faults in that argument. He deserves our traffic, so go take a look (http://www.ripten.com/2008/08/06/wtf-gamedaily-calls-littlebigplanet-glorified-version-of-powerpoint/).

2 things. In the quote there is a link to Gamedaily. And this made me laugh. Better if you could string levels together? They are a gaming website, shouldn't they know you CAN string levels together? And how is it like powerpoint? In powerpoint all you do is make pictures move and different slides and words appear. Doesn't sound like I am describing LittleBigPlanet does it?2008-08-08 05:26:00

First of all, I fixed the link. Secondly, make sure to read the rebuttal article I posted. He nails the reason why GameDaily has this opinion in the first place.

Yeah, I did read it after I posted. It is pretty cool that you can create power point type levels in it, that would be fun to make for a business meeting.

Lol, ten games that will probably suck. This is Vegas because it's not an accurate representation? Either is GTA4, and I bet they reviewed it highly. BiA: Hell's Highway because it's the same old WWII game? I like the BiA games because they are different WWII games. What a stupid article.

I absolutely loved that Ripten article . Especially the concluding remark:

"In the end, we are all nothing more than a glorified version of HTML filled with user generated content, and some of it is bound to suck."

The guy who wrote the original article is a prime example of the suck.

Game who? I never go to them for news anyways. They've always been teh suckage.
Anyways, of course there's gonna be crappy levels. Youtube is full of crappy videos and it's quite successful. MySpace is full of crappy people(... and pages) and it's also very successful. Whatevers. They can have their opinions.

Powerpoint isn't fun, and lacks Sackboys. Therefore, the comparison doesn't work.

Really, what a piece of crap writer.

I think it was brilliant on Sony's part to use LBP for the normally boring sales numbers What I saw there was how flexible LBP could really be. And the croud was cheering sales numbers.
While I'll admit I am a sucker for Sackboy(can't wait for my very own plushie to love) I don't understand how GameDaily could call this a powerpoint. Was this based solely on the E3 Press conference? It had to be. How incredibly short sighted of them. I mean come on the PSP is capable of musical slideshows does this make it a digital photo frame? And BTW you can also make a powerpoint on it as well.. Obviously, they didn't take the time to research this game. Sure something with user-created content is bound to have some duds on the whole but I see great potential. There are some extermely creative folks on this planet and I can't wait to see what we come up with

That's what you get when an internet publication hires people with starkly contrasting views on different subjects. That's actually interesting.

Well, it could have been a publicity stunt. No better way to attract attention to your website then to get people angry.2008-08-08 21:19:00

i liked their final response about all being a glorified version of html, and i'm geussing gamedaily only sid it was going to suck just to become trolls... if you think about it, trolls often get more responses then the regular people... they must not care if the response is positive or negative, as long as they get a response...2008-08-09 00:25:00
