Lifting a bomb with a vehicle...and no claw.
Archive: 11 posts
I know there must be a fairly easy way to do this, but I'm at a loss. I have a vehicle, it flies, it's all good. It has a flat spot on the bottom, I want that to be my mag lift. I fly over, carefully set down on the bomb, hold R1 and fly away with it. When I let go, the bomb drops. And I want to be able to do this without an actual claw. I figure it's going to be a combo of anti grav and a follower with a short range, but the actual logic is killing me. Any ideas guys? | 2011-01-25 16:18:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
You could... Attach a winch to it and put the length too huge and spped really quick, but thats a bit old school. | 2011-01-25 16:22:00 Author: Kern Posts: 5078 |
You could... Attach a winch to it and put the length too huge and spped really quick, but thats a bit old school. That would work with only a single bomb. I need lots of bombs, probably a bomb spawn point, that sort of thing. Hmmmm...just a thought. Can you turn tags on and off? (I'm at work right now) If I can, then I could have on the bombs themselves a follower, anti grav and a tag switch....or something. I'd have to play with it. Then have the tag on the vehicle. Hmmmmm. | 2011-01-25 16:24:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
Yes, you can turn tags on and off. Sounds like you solved it yourself. | 2011-01-25 16:30:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
I guess sometimes you just need to write it down. | 2011-01-25 16:36:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
You're going to find that if you use a contact explosive from your dangerous items, that a follower has JUST enough lag, that if you are moving up, then quickly move down you can blow yourself up. I never found away to completely avoid that potential using followers, but I didn't spend much time trying, either. | 2011-01-25 16:40:00 Author: RoharDragontamer Posts: 397 |

I'll just add some dissolve or cardboard to the bombs as an insulator and put the actual follower on that...maybe. Or I could put a reverse follower of half the power on the vehicle to keep it just a little bit away from the ship...maybe. Or I could attach some invisible holo to the bomb and put the actual follower on that, that could be cool...maybe. | 2011-01-25 16:49:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
This was harder than I thought it was going to be but I figured it out and it works great. Made the bomb so it was a three by three circle. Then I made a piece of dissolve (my material of choice when I want it to blow up) that is three across and two down. Then I copied the bomb onto the dissolve so the top row of dissolve is intact. The resulting item is three across and four down. A tag labeled "boom" is put in the center of the bomb. Both the bomb and dissolve I stickered red, if you care. Next you make a three across, four down holo. A tag sensor labeled "boom" and reversed is put on it so it will be in about the same spot. Next a MC is put on the holo. Stick a gyro on there so the rounded bottom wont fall over. Now put a follower and a tag sensor both set to "ship". Adjust as needed. Wire the "ship" tag sensor into the follower. If you don't do this the follower (bomb) will float in the air when you let go. Add a destroyer set to explode or disappear. Wire the "Boom" tag sensor into this. Move the holo (I colored it red) over the bomb and hard glue it. Now on the flat spot on the ship put a couple tags called "ship". Wire the ship's R1 to all of them. Now when you press R1 the tags light up. When you are close enough the follower will turn on and stick to the bottom of the ship. Release R1, the follower turns off and the bomb falls. When the bomb hits, it explodes. The "boom" tag is triggered and the holo is destroyed as well. I thought I would update this since this could have lots of applications. | 2011-01-26 00:27:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |
You could probably do this a lot easier by making the bomb sticky only to the magnetic lift. I don't exactly know how to make the stickiness selective, but I know it can be done, since there are some surfaces in "The Cakinator" that the cake won't stick to. | 2011-01-26 00:40:00 Author: Yofig Posts: 288 |

How would you release it? B. If you get the bomb too close and move around, YOU blow up. So you need that buffer. I probably could have made the buffer smaller, but it was aesthetically pleasing. | 2011-01-26 00:49:00 Author: Biv Posts: 734 |

I probably could have made the buffer smaller, but it was aesthetically pleasing. Not problems at all. A. You can toggle material tweakers. B. That doesn't happen if the bomb is glued to it, only if it's knocking against it. I.E. That's not a problem if you use the gluing technique. | 2011-01-26 02:07:00 Author: Yofig Posts: 288 |
