The awesome custom music is done by SevenIsaCannibal.
Thanks to Shadowcrazy (the Royal Tailor) & Dinaralin for their cameos.
Thanks to his freshly crowned Lordship Rohar Dragontamer for the late night camera tutorial.

The other two you know from the beta are already published: Moolah Nightmarket & Adventurers District.
The introduction Carcosa City Gate is completely new. Enjoy!

Thanks Rohar, but if the two of us do much more growing up, we will have long grey beards and be in need of walkingsticks & hearing-aids...lol2011-01-25 18:36:00

Wow, very cool atmosphere. I like how the use of all the characters makes the place feel alive! I enjoy trying to figure out how to get to certain spots in all the linked levels. My only critique would be about some of the cameras. Over to the left side of the level , especially if the sack bot picks you up, the camera goes up high and makes seeing the ground difficult. Not a game breaker, just something to look at if you want. Otherwise, love it!2011-01-29 14:46:00

Very nice atmosphere and really well put together. I sometimes felt like I had no direction and was a little lost, but I guess that's the point. There's no dedicated destination to reach. Really nice work.2011-01-29 15:07:00

exactly friend. this level has a FREE ROAM genre on it but unfortunately Mm doesn't have a tag for that. but yeah basically the whole point is to enjoy the scenery of the world and it's characters and the music.

plus to add to this the level is also a HUB level so it's purpose is to make it to the other levels too

Indeed, roam all you like, but there's always a scoreboard hidden in each of the levels (usually in a quite inacessible place), for if you want to set a highscore.

Ashelrac, you're right about the camera. I'll fix it right away

In the meantime: Eve's Gaol (the prequel to Carcosa & the start of the story) is about 80 % done.
Lapsang Burial Grounds is coming along nicely, and I started work on Clockwork Quarters.

I really love the environments you've created in this level series and this one was no exception. It had great atmosphere - full of quirkiness and charm. My favourite bit was the panoramic view of the whole city at the beginning and how it's built on the curve of the planet - very LBP.

I had fun finding bubble stashes and just generally exploring. The little section with the natives at the far right looks cool. Will the level it links to have a jungle theme?

When you've got all the levels completed are you going to make this hub the only way to access the other levels or are they going to be separately accessible as now?

Anyway, these levels are a pure pleasure to wander through - can't wait to see more! <3

Hi Shrops, good you liked it!

Indeed the Lapsang Burial Grounds will have a bit of an far east feel: crumbling ruins, lush vegetation, bamboo, giant treevillage etc. It will be crawling with hungry pygmies.

I'm still deciding if I will make Carcosa the only entrance to the other city-levels. I like the idea of an MM-storyline where you have to open up the next chapters by playing through the first. On the other hand, it can become quiet tedious to play through the same levels again to reach a new addition. And I think you'll have to replay them if you're using the sublevel feature.

What you could do in this situation is have the sub levels locked, and at the entry gate provide a key. No tedious replays.

I really liked your level. It's nice to see a little world in creation, I dunno how you have all this time!
It's nice to freeroam around as it's beautiful and that there's nice details. I would have prefered just tiny facultative goals outside finding bubbles though. Or maybe there is and it's just me not finding them? It's not like I scored yet 'cause I kinda was in a hurry. My gaming is bit too precious for my liking these days. I will definetely return to your level there. Freeroam experiments like this were rare un LBP1 and I really like that. My level "Sack's In The City" and "Sack's on the beach" both are freeroamers too if you want to try them. (They are LBP1 levels however, no need to F4F. Keep it for when I'll release an LBP2 level

Thanks for the kind remarks, Lockstitch & RangerZero. Great you liked exploring the city!

I believe I have played most of your LBP1 levels, RangerZero: good stuff as I remember. (Especially liked the Blue Planet.) Let me know when you publish a new level, I'll be sure to give it a try. (Off course I've also played all of Lockstitch' levels: but who hasn't? )

Also, I've just published the prequel to my City-levels: Eve's Gaol. It's somewhat more storydriven, but still more than enough opportunity to roam around and explore. Give it a try if you like.

Where to begin. . .
Let's see. . . Ah yes.

Absolutely stunning should summarize my words.

+ Intricate details that go a long way towards the whole feel of the level, I love being sucked into a world. And it seems to me you have a world slowly forming as the days go by. I can't wait to see the rest of the links. (Yes, I played more than one of your levels. I couldn't help it.)

+ Very distinct district like areas. From the tribal looking entrance to the electric town's broken up sign with a sputtering letter that's fighting to turn itself back on. You seriously know how to make something feel alive, and on that note. . .

+ Lovely work with the Sackbots adding a little life. While I would have wanted a busier scene, that's too much to ask for what was already given to me. (That and some were doing things such as building, or grabbing me, or running away like a scared rabbit out of time.)

I'd try to think of some negatives, but there wasn't anything I could point out that bothered, nor bugged on me, or frustrated for that matter. I will say, excellent work on the levels. I can't wait for more. c: Hearted, smilied, and hearted you as well for future tracking.

Edit:

Gah! Forgot one small thing.

+ The music. I want to steal your composer as the music set the mood and tone for much of this to me. That said, I l'd love to steal you for my levels as well. >_>

Thanks very much, Silvaire!

I love that music too, it's done by that genius SevenisaCannibal, check out his great level if you haven't already.

I'll keep on building my world, level by level. The next one, Lapsang Burial Grounds, is almost done.

I love the title too. It instantly captured my interest!

Consider this puppy queued!

I haven't played any in the series yet, is there any particular order that I should play them in?

Thanks! Let me know what you think. (BTW loved your Machines that feed on our Dreams.)

My suggested order in which to play the levels:
1. Eve's Gaol
2. Carcosa City Gate
3. roam around the city districts in any way you like
a. The Moolah Nightmarket
b. Adventurers District
c. Cuckoo Clockwork Quarter (upcoming)
d. Lapsang Burial Grounds
e. Electric Town (upcoming)
4a. Master Origami's Secret Workshop (upcoming)

Hey Pickled, i've got this cued up to play when i get home from work, but i got to know...

This Carcosa....like is this the Shifting City, on the Lake of Hali, King of Yellow, Carcosa? The Robert Chambers or John Tynes Carcosa? Because if it is, i think you just became my favourite creator this week.

Also, if it is, would you like "Yellow Sign" sticker for use? i've gt a pretty nice one worked up that i've used in costumes.

Anyhow, looking forward to playing these. Have yourself a great day!

Indeed, King of Waffles, I was thinking of the City of Spires on the Lake of Hali. Besides the Bierce/Chambers allusions, there are also (un)healthy sprinklings and doses from the writings of Joseph Conrasd (Heart of Darkness), Lewis Carrol (Alice) & William S. Burroughs (Interzone).

Don't expect to much Mythos-madness in this hub level, but I do plan to further explore the Lake of Hali and the madness-inducing play in upcoming episodes. (And of course there will now be a White Queen that wears the Pallid Mask...)

Hmmm... a sticker with a yellow sign is a VERY interesting idea.

so yeah BUY THE FF7 PACK lol and the heavy rain shelby coat ****** hahaha

Oh...that is just too cool then. Run into a lot of people who know Lovecraft, but not too many who know some of the other old and new mythos writers. When i was a younger lad than i am now Tynes's take on the Hastur mythos really knocked me for a loop (to the extent that the yellow sign and clockwork child were my first two tattoos). Have you seen "Suicide Watch" in Delta Green: Dark Theatres? An interesting one that.

*Geek mode off* i played through the Eve's Gaol and Clockwork Quarters stages and thought they were excellent. i particularly liked the open exploration feel of the Clockwork section. i would say, maybe just a sign or a note with "Exit this way" for folks who don't have a lot of time to put into looking around. Although, on the other hand, i somehow managed to miss the completely obvious exit from the Mad hatter's shop, so it might just be me...

Oh! And the magic door bit! That was really really keen, i thought. A lot of times (even in my stages) Sticker Gates aren't really integrated into the world presented, they're just kind of There. Treating it like an ability within that world (i can imagine something like in Beetlejuice) is a great way of handling things.

All in all aces stages with or without mythos, i'll definitely keep an eye on your stuff.

Hey Hatter, I've already grabbed the Heavy Rain-pack (50% off), fantastic b&w stickers that will be put to good use. Off course I won't be able to resist the FF-pack

Thanks Waffleking. My favourite Carcosa tale is probably the classic River of Night's Dreaming by Karl Edward Wagner, great stuff. No tattoos though Btw I've just translated one of my own Carcosa tales that will be published in the upcoming issue of Cyaegha (http://www.freewebs.com/batglynn/cyaegha.htm), issue 5.

I love the stickering mechanic in LBP, but it's greatly under-used I think. I've been searching for a way to get the switches to notice when you remove a sticker, but I can' t figure it out. (Maybe it's impossible?)

Master Origami: I wear no mask.

Waffleking, please don't quote that play around here... I can feel my sanity crumbling already!!!

In return, here's some Ligotti: "Gathered around the blaze are several figures - five, perhaps four - with hunched shoulders and spines curving toward the light of the flames. they are all wearing masks which at first seem securely fitted to their faces. But, one by one, these masks appear to loosen and slip down, as if each is losing hold upon the wearer. Finally, one of the figures pulls his off completely and tosses it inot the fire, where it curls and shrinks into a wad of bubbling blackness. The others follow this action when their time comes. Relieved of their masks, the figures resume their shrugging stance. But the light of the fire now shines on four, yes four, smooth and faceless faces."
(Greater Festival of Masks)

Shadowcrazy, send me another configuration of your snappy dresser. I think it's rather cool to have the hatter in a differen outfit for every level in which he appears.

lol only issue would be DLC since i own almost everything and you still lack in some of them

but other then that yea id love to have different shadow hatter outfits in every level he appears on.

you have the one with the big hat and the loads of stuff on him from before? if not I could send that one too

all you'd really need to do tho is focus on DLC and a way to explain why the Shadow Hatter wears something different everyday...which the reason is that he likes to mix it up but what i mean is a way to explain to the player that he will always change his look in different levels

Yeah, can't keep up with your clothes shopping sprees...

that's makes me sad lol so much awesomeness i give you and it can't be applied since you don't have the packs I have...also changed courage's with a tweak of having vincent's awesome claw in it...but yeha doesnt matter cuz you dont have the KZ2 pack lol

Received your new Hatter-suits & will put them to good use. (Will that Hatter finally go completely crazy....?)

lol thanks....and what you mean? the shadow hatter is already completely insane...he's happy insane and is mostly (if this site will alow the phrase) "high" on life...shadow hatter has emotional issues but he's mostly happy with that same smile he sports everytime...only few cases will he ever be angry and when he does his true power will be revealed with darkness spreading over.

the shadow hatter is completely insane and is always completely smiling and happy...he loves Eve (a.k.a white queen) and he is a SHAPE SHIFTER (meaning of course that he can take on any form he wishes...and for the viewers/players we make his forms still show his glowing eyes and darken the skin of whoever he copies...but thats if you ever want him to shape shift)

but yeah lol he's already insane....just you never really ask my anything about him to help you when you add him to levels so i never am able to give you things for him to say or whatever lol...but yeah im always here if you wanna talk more in depth about my lovely creation.

p.s. you edit any of the old levels with the old hatter in them?
