Emergent Behavior

I have been messing around with an idea that I've prototyped a bit and I'm not sure where to go in actually incorporating it into a level design. What I've got are a bunch of "bug bots" that fly around in very insect-like behaviors, but they have some simple rules I can configure. For example, a simple rule like "stay still if there is another bug bot underneath you." The result of this is emergent behavior, like stacking themselves up as they find bugs under them and stop. I can get them to arrange in different patterns like this, and they self-coordinate. I'm also thinking I could use a creatinator to fire a "pheromone ball" to control where they start building from.

I'm just not sure how to make a level out of that. Any ideas?

Lemming style "A to B" level;


But what could be more interesting would be a "Honey Hive" level.
Maybe assign "roles" to different bees - some on pollen collection duty - some on hive defense - others on honey production duty.
Kind of like a survival/score challenge level.
