Timed Bird Hunting (Updated to current version)

Archive: 10 posts

Hey guys, I know this thread has been dead since I posted it, hah. But my real level thread has been blooming and blooming. And I've updated it countless times now.

And I thought since all of my main features seemed to be working now... I'd bring the timed bird hunting back!

It now has bird patterns and boomerang usage and an aimer, and a bonus for a x2 shot just like in my alpha testing level! The only thing I've disabled is the flying fish... Because in it's current state it's just unfair...

Anyways a single round will last you four minutes.
Hope you guys enjoy.

Think you guys can beat my high score?

Keep in mind, I mainly made this for the people who like my work in progress level Bird Hunting, this is so they can try and have the stop score on a level, since my other one isn't timed...

I have it queued and will definately check it out!

If you get the time (or even want to), I would appreciate if you could check out my newest level. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=49912-Wood-s-Edge-Ruins

Thanks!

I enjoyed it, as it was a unique spin to a shooter-type thing. I also liked how you gave the birds wings. One thing I would add is more background, even though the backyard fence from the garden's theme looks pretty fitting for the style. After about two minutes, though, it became a bit monotonous, so perhaps you could have the birds be emitted at different heights and the emitting speed up as you near the end. Having limited ammo or firing rate would make it better as well; with that fast of a fire rate, it's less about precision and more just destroying every bird in your path. Having a fairly slow firing rate would make it more precision based, which would fit in well with the bow and arrows. Plus, it would make it more interesting. But that's my opinion. I still liked it a lot however (And the ending was fun with the bounce pads!). Good job!2011-02-18 03:26:00

Thanks for the feed back! I plan to eventually add in faster spawning and stuff, but my bird hunting is still in alpha (pre beta) and I'm just trying to get everything worked out for now.

And the whole fact that you lose points for every shot makes it precision based. Since it's a score challenge, if you try and fast fire you'll end up with zero points, so it's ALL ABOUT precision.

Ah, I gotcha. I didn't realize you lost points with every shot. Maybe that's why I got a bad score? Anyway, in that case, forget about what I said (about the fire rate that is). Also, I didn't realize it was in alpha. It's certainly a good start to what could be a very cool playstyle!2011-02-18 04:04:00

Lots of people seem to not realize that at first... And yes, that's probably why you didn't get a very high score.

Yeah, this is basically a copy of my Bird Hunting Alpha V0.7. with the bonus flying fish removed, and a time limit imposed.
Since my normal alpha doesn't have a time limit, someone sat there playing it till they racked up a score of 2500. Hah. So I decided I'd make a timed version.

3 minutes is a really long time for what this level is.

Make sure the rotater on the bow and arrow is set to the input mode "speed" instead of direction or on/off. This way you can lightly tilt the analog stick to adjust your aim more precisely.

You should decrease the strength on the birds' movers so their movement is less jerky and more smooth.

You should use a randomizer to break up the pacing of the birds appearing so it's a little less regular (it's something like every 3 seconds now so if you used a randomizer you could make it like 2-4 seconds).

Thanks for the tip about the speed, the three or four weeks these levels have been up no one has pointed that out to me and I never even thought about it.

I'll look into the bird movements

I think right now it's set to like 2-3 seconds, my randomizer. To be honest though I haven't looked at that in ages so I could be wrong.
